Haute Family Farmhouse
Newly built of wood and based on the architectural footprint of a traditional barn, this generous family farmhouse puts the emphasis on gathering, immersed in great taste, modern conveniences and high style, with an enclosed garden, pool, yoga studio, and name-brand, designer furnishings.
An architectural re-envisioning of country barn, this family style farmhouse features all new, local wood construction, space for everyone to spread out, and chill out spots ranging from an enclosed garden with a pool, sauna, hot tub and playscape, to a central farm table for communal dining and an in-home cinema and fireplace.
Eco-minded (solar powered, with electric vehicle charging stations) and family-friendly (bedrooms are modular/convertible for varied sleep situations and family sizes), the modern farmhouse also features cool designer furnishings by Vibia, Eames, Charles & Ray, Vetsak and Artemide. Its soaring volumes are enclosed behind oversized, sliding barn doors, and there's a yoga/wellness studio up top, under its sharply pitched rafters.
AROUND
Located in the village of Lieg, population approximately 400, in the Rhineland-Palatinate province of Germany, the farmhouse sits just east of the scenic Moselle River, land of vineyards, fairytale castles, half-timbered homes and pretty waterfront villages. Germany’s longest suspended bridge is located in nearby Geierlay (approximately 15 minutes’ drive), stretching precariously over a 1,100 foot spread. The farmhouse is also near the Moselschleife (a scenic river buckle or bell-shaped bend) and the Moselsteig, a 24-stage, long-distance (365km) hiking trail that follows the Moselle River from the Franco-German-Luxembourg point to Koblenz, Germany, where the Moselle meets the Rhine.
Fairytale fans will be awed by Eltz Castle, among others near the home. And the farmhouse comes with a boat (a Quicksilver 455 Open) that doesn’t require a license to drive, moored 7km away at a Moselle River marina. The greater Rhineland-Palatinate region features the Rhine, Moselle, Nahe and Ahr Rivers and is known as a region for wine lovers and walkers. Hikers will appreciate the Rheinsteig, an elevated trail that extends for over 300 kilometers along the Rhine River. And the Palatinate Forest nature park along the French border is a biosphere reserve, home to protected lynxes, kingfishers, and falcons, and also a mecca for rock climbers who gather near the village of Dahn where more than 80 climbing routes cross the sandstone. Riesling is the grape variety of the region, introduced by the Romans over 2,000 years ago, and tasting rooms, vineyard tours, and wine routes are also on offer in the area.
