A 19th-Century Corsican Farm Continues Its Historic Bounty
This farm in southern Corsica has three separate dwellings on over 1,000 hectares of vineyards and rugged island countryside. The three original 19th-century out-buildings remain from an abandoned turn-of-the-century wine estate, and the houses, vineyards and ancient orchards have been carefully restored and continue to produce some of the finest varietals and olive oils in the region.

The Old School is a converted schoolhouse with a lovely relaxed feel. The soft tones and vintage furnishings of its interiors evoke a bygone age of glamour that has faded just enough to be comfortable. Interiors are elegant, a throwback to the early 20th century, chic with just a hint of shabby. The color scheme is earthy tones, with cool blues and teals, and the occasional burst of red. Exteriors are simple and rustic - with stone, brick, and terracotta tiling. There is an outdoor dining area with a large infinity pool and views of the nearby mountains.
The Stone Barn is a charming cottage located in a pretty garden full of ancient olive trees and one large oak, it’s perfect for a romantic getaway. The property retains all the charm of its original features but has been given a modern spin – with a lovely swimming pool and deck, as well as all the amenities you would expect.
Le Moulin a Sartene was renovated with local materials and masonry techniques and transformed back to its authentic style with rich patinas and paints, handcrafted tiles and fixtures and carefully selected period antiques.
But it’s the details that really make this property special. The toiletries are homemade using extracts from local fragrant shrubs, and are presented in glass bottles. Choose from wild fennel shampoo, myrtle and sweet orange shower gel, and soaps made from olive oil and immortelle flowers.
The owners shop in advance for guests, and re-stock every three days. A selection of breads and pastries is delivered for breakfast every morning, and occasional surprises are thrown in – such as cakes made from chestnut flour or gingerbread with Corsican honey. Jams are made from fruits found in the orchards or in the forests belonging to the estate, so guests can expect such delights as quince jelly, orange marmalade, fig or peach jam.
There’s also a vegetable garden, which guests are welcome to use during the summer season. Expect regular deliveries of tomatoes fresh from the garden, as well as melons, onions, cucumbers, courgettes, aubergines, and much more. Cheese comes from the neighboring shepherd, farmhouse eggs and chickens from the valley, and cooked meats are specially sourced.
And let’s not forget the wine cellar. Guests are invited to sample the unique flavors of the valley. Glasses of wine are drawn straight from the barrel, and culinary combinations are suggested.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
During the Easter and October school holidays (and on request all year round), horseback rides are available for adults and pony/donkey rides for children.
A personal chef is also available, as well as a massage therapist. How about a relaxation massage or seaweed wrap under the oak tree, with dinner waiting for you when you've unwound?
