An Architect's Touch in Old Tavira
In the heart of Tavira’s old town, this historic residence has been reborn through the eyes of renowned Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus. Located on Largo Dona Ana, the home is a masterclass in minimalist intervention, crowned by a private roof terrace which offers expansive views over the city’s rooftops.
This project represents a dialogue between the historic urban fabric of Tavira and the rigorous, poetic modernism of Manuel Aires Mateus. The renovation strips the building back to its essential form, with a monochromatic palette that allows the textures of the city—the shifting light and distant sounds—to become part of the interior experience.
The home’s crowning feature is its private roof terrace. From this vantage point, guests can enjoy panoramic views of Tavira’s tiled roofs and landmarks. Furnished for outdoor dining and equipped with a charcoal barbecue grill, it is the perfect space for enjoying a morning coffee while the city awakens or dinner under the stars.
