A Regal Home in Cartagena’s Historic Center

This stunning 16th-century mansion possesses a dramatic architectural and historic legacy that dates back to Sir Francis Drake's sacking of the city. (This is in fact where he stayed while he pillaged!) That aside, we love this massive home's authentic colonial beauty and modern refinements with a design approach that incorporates the best of Colombian culture and traditions. 

Located in one of the most prestigious sites in Cartagena’s historic center, this stunning mansion sits in front of the Cathedral of St. Catalina de Alejandria close to Bolivar square and just steps from the historical sights of the old city. Built in the mid 16th century, the house was one of the first buildings made of stone here and was where Sir Francis Drake staged his assault on the city.

The original colonial structure has been thoroughly renovated and retains its beautiful archways, vaulted wood ceilings and marble work throughout. Completely redecorated by a French designer, the interiors follow a captivating and elegant old-world Spanish modern style and are decorated with a mix of traditional furniture and decor and eye-catching antiques. 

The living room is expansive and open with plenty of seating overlooking the courtyard with a large dining area that seats up to sixteen. There is a fully equipped kitchen with an optional private chef and staff to serve you throughout your stay.

The massive house features seven en-suite bedrooms, each individually  decorated and designed. The royal suite comes with its own living and dining rooms and a private balcony overlooking the street while two additional suites overlook the cathedral from private balconies. There are two additional mezzanine suites and two superior rooms with space for up to twenty guests total.

The poolside patio areas are set under high ceilings and decorated just as beautifully as the rest of the home and surrounded by immaculate private palm gardens. Positioned directly in the middle of the garden oasis, the pool is surrounded by a spectacular natural coral wall. There's also a private rooftop pool that offers amazing views of the cathedral and sweeping views of this magnificent city.

AROUND

Immersed into the most central heart of Cartagena, you are just steps from the Cathedral and within the romantic core of the walled 16th-century Old Town with its ornate plazas, cobblestone streets and colorful colonial architecture. A UNESCO treasure, this modern port town is the jewel of the Caribbean coast and is beautifully preserved. Be sure to check out the Inquisition and Gold Museums, Plaza Santo Domingo, Government square, Bolivar Park and Plaza San Pedro and stroll the seaside ramparts. Outside the old town are the slightly more congested and chaotic working class towns as well as the emerging barrio of Getsemaní with amazing food and culture. 

Vast stretches of beaches extend along the perimeter and to south, the more modern Bocagrande peninsula has a fashionable Miami Beach vibe with trendy restaurants and cafes and luxury shops. The nightlife and street scene go on all night here with lively bars and clubs and great music and food. The nearby Isla de Barú and Islas del Rosario, are a short boat ride away with beautiful waters and coral reefs for diving.
