Spectacularly Susegad
The marriage of two newly designed buildings with an original Goan bungalow, this fully-staffed coastal hideaway harnesses the architectural strength of existing structures with thoughtful contemporary design. Masterfully merged by Italian architect Annalisa Bellettati, the property—one in the Rose Nomad portfolio by architect/designer and hospitality maven Pio Coffrant—has been designed to bring the lush outdoors in. Across each of its five structures, the heady green oasis submerges guests in unexaggerated, although luxuriously staffed, tropical comforts.
Old At Heart: Staffed Tropical Hideaway in Goa
With ample spaces for sleeping deeply and stretching out languidly, this tropical hideaway features a main house, two newly-built bedroom wings with a total of five bedrooms, a massage space and separate yoga pavilion in a lush, leafy acre plus near Goa’s destination beaches of Morjim, Ashwem and Mandrem.
At the heart of the property, an immaculately restored, original Goan home gives the property heft and history. The cheery original structure anchors the estate in its tropical garden, and is the common zone for gathering, dining, and unwinding together both inside the home’s bright rooms and on its wraparound, shaded balcony, one side directly facing the 20-meter infinity pool.
The two new structures by Bellettati marry Indian and Portuguese influences, exuding susegad, the Goan Portuguese word that describes the signature calm, relaxed attitude that’s prevailed historically throughout the region. Although parallel in style, each king-sized bedroom suite with bath is unique, though all feature classic stone floors, wide wood walls that slide open to the elements, and signature Goan-Portuguese oyster shell windows.
The property’s staff includes a cook, manager and housekeeping team, and daily breakfast is included in the rates with additional meals for an added fee, by reservation. An additional child's cot can be added to the sleeping arrangements free of charge. Please note that there will be a 25% price increase for Indian Holidays (Diwali, Holi, Independence Day, Dusshera, etc) and select long weekends.
Around
Set in a leafy tropical garden, the property is located between the village of Assagao and several popular beaches—Ashwem, Mandrem, and Morjim. At the end of the property, views extend for miles into open paddy fields, though the home offers easy access to Goa’s restaurants, waterfront activities and nightlife. An on-site yoga pavilion and outdoor massage pavilion bring wellness to the home, and swimming and sunbathing are not to be missed at this lush jungle poolscape.
Watersports are available on most nearby beaches, and sightseeing options range from guided visits to Goa’s capital, Panjim, to roam its Fontainhas/Latin Quarter, exploration of the ruins of Chapora Fort in Vagator, shopping the Friday market in Mapusa, as well as more in-depth, curated experiences such as surf lessons or culinary explorations with local instructors. The Rose Nomad portfolio brings together interests in travel, design, art and food, and discovery of the region’s gastronomy and unique architectural history are a priority. Visitors to Goa shouldn’t miss visits to temples like the Mallikarjun, dating from the 16th century, and the region’s ornate Baroque architecture, brought to the tropical, oceanfront region during the Portuguese colonial era along with food and music influences.
