A Sculptor's Wellness Remodel on Water Mill's Quiet North Side
Hamptons Abode is a five-bedroom modern house on a gated, tree-lined lane in Water Mill North, the quiet inland side of one of the Hamptons' oldest hamlets. The owner, sculptor Susan Yin, has turned it into a wellness-first residence, with her art throughout the space.
Yin works in biomorphic sculpture, organic forms drawn from nature, and she builds in clean, sustainable materials. She remodeled the house on the same terms: non-toxic finishes, filtered water, a plan organized around how a body actually wants to move through a day. Her own terracotta pieces, including work from her Echoed Height series, stand in the living spaces, and the furniture answers them. A blush modular sofa and a white bouclé cloud sofa carry the same rounded geometry, and a cream rug is cut by a single black curve.
Inside, the main level opens under a vaulted ceiling crossed by stained-wood beams. The kitchen is white oak with a waterfall island and a marble-topped niche that holds a La Marzocco espresso machine. A stone-clad fireplace anchors the great room. The bedrooms are calm and pared back, cane chairs and line drawings against white walls. Wellness runs through the house rather than sitting in one wing: a Swedish cedar sauna, and a home gym with a rowing machine, a squat rack and a treadmill.
Outside, the acre-plus is walled by mature evergreens for privacy. A heated saltwater pool curves through the lawn, edged with loungers and a cantilever umbrella, with an outdoor shower and paver terraces set among flowering beds. A three-car garage with a Tesla wall charger sits behind the gate. The ocean beaches at Flying Point are five miles south, and the organic farm stands of Montauk Highway are closer still.

Around
Water Mill is one of the oldest hamlets on the South Fork, better known now for farm fields and glittering estates than for the mill it was named after. The eating is local and seasonal. Green Thumb, a certified-organic farm stand farmed by the same family since the 1600s, sits on Montauk Highway behind its painted vintage truck. The Milk Pail farm and orchard runs U-pick apples and cider in the fall; Mecox Bay Dairy, the South Fork's only dairy, sells raw-milk cheese from its Jersey herd; Suki Zuki turns out some of the best sushi on the East End; and Goldberg's handles the morning bagel run. Culture is close, with the Parrish Art Museum in its long Herzog & de Meuron shed and Robert Wilson's Watermill Center arts campus. Duck Walk Vineyards pours nearby, and the ocean beaches at Flying Point and Mecox are a short drive south.
