Rural Contemplation and Architectural Inspiration an Hour from Prague
Rising as a bold white statement from its verdant, South Bohemian grounds (formerly a castle garden), this retreat in the village of Kamenná Lhota was designed by architect Jan žaloudek and has appeared in the pages of Vogue CS, Forbes, Interior Design Magazine, Dwell, and Elle Decoration, among others.
It is centered around the remnants of a Baroque-era barn, surrounded by centuries-old trees and framed by an ancient stone wall in the lush landscape of rural South Bohemia. The home was a dream project by the architect-owner and his art historian and writer wife, Jolanta Trojak, built as a place to retreat inward, as well as connect to nature, mental strength and creativity.
A yoga deck outdoors adds to the meditative quality of the place, and the dining room fills the original barn’s ruins. The minimalist interiors earned the home the Interior of the Year 2024 award. The home’s two bedrooms and bathrooms offer six beds, and there’s a steam cabin on site as well.
