A Cut Above: Your Own Private Boutique Hotel with Custom Meals by a Private Chef
Behind its generous arched entry on a cobbled street in a stunning stone village on Mallorca, this ancient townhome offers a world of bespoke services and styling. It’s an ideal stay for large families, work retreats, small groups, or entrepreneurial gatherings across its six individually designed bedrooms and well-appointed common areas, with a courtyard garden and outdoor entertainment area with a sparkling pool and lounge spaces for cherished downtime.
The property’s homey ambiance ensures privacy, and provides guests with a luxurious, hands-off stay, where a private chef is included, preparing daily meals from Mallorcan produce and fresh ingredients from land and sea. The chef contacts guests prior to arrival to create a meal plan, with ingredients billed additionally. Meals are paired with low-intervention wines and served either alfresco in a shaded poolside dining area, or within the home’s high-ceilinged dining room that opens to the outdoors.
Furnishings are a fun, original combination of colorful contemporary art and creative, eclectic accents that marry well with more refined antiques and stylish, modern design pieces.
The result is a deeply personal atmosphere throughout the home that feels like an indulgent stay in the home of a friend with great taste. Beyond the pool, cushy upper-level terrace and infrared sauna, the property’s hospitality ethos puts exploring the island’s natural beauty at the forefront. On-site staff can assist in outfitting you with complimentary bikes, hiking gear, tennis and paddle rackets and yoga equipment, as well as reserving more curated experiences such as boat tours or guided epicurean adventures. Guests enjoy free access to the Sóller Tennis Club and bicycles are available as well.
Note: The house does not allow self-catering as the kitchen is exclusively for staff use, helmed by creative chef/leader Grace Berrow. Meals are pre-arranged and prepared with selected seasonal ingredients that are billed additionally.
Around
A picturesque traditional town of arms’ width alleys and stony streets and passages, Soller is an outdoor adventurer’s delight, well known as one of Mallorca’s prettiest villages, and an ideal spot for those seeking to explore the island’s natural beauty. A few kilometers inland, the town occupies a valley of orange groves, with a historical town plaza, stunning stone churches, flower bedecked buildings and residences, and a vintage tram that connects the village to its sea port sister village, Port de Sóller. Mallorca’s “backbone” mountain range, the UNESCO World Heritage designated Tramuntana range rises beyond Soller, and the town is an ideal base for adventuring the rugged peaks. A hiker and rock climber’s nirvana, the Tramuntana are wild and jagged, embracing two mountain lakes, isolated villages, and remnants of ancient stone terraces and walls. Road cyclists train on the island’s network of steep inland roads, but it’s only on foot that some of the mountains’ treasures can be experienced. For example, the dramatic Torrent de Pareis cascade crashes deep within a sheer, rocky valley, and the Ruta de Pedra Sec offers a scenic, pedestrian-only network of trails extending between Andratx and Pollença, with refuges for rest along the way.
The port town of Port de Sóller is located on Mallorca’s most remote coast. Separated from the rest of the island by the dramatic Tramuntanas, this small, waterfront city has historically relied on its seaside location for its trade and livelihood and remains a classic maritime Mediterranean village that retains its authenticity due to its relative isolation. It wasn’t until the early 20th century that a train connected Mallorca’s capital, Palma, with Sóller itself, and the car tunnel leading through the mountains to the port was only completed in the 1990s. Soller and Port de Soller are connected by road, path, and tramway. Two landmarks of note: The town’s Torre Picada was built after the great pirate attack of 1561, and a former monastery now holds the local Museu de la Mar, a site that tells the tales of the town’s maritime and fishing history. Sailing and boating are obvious pastimes from here, and there are many opportunities for chartered excursions along the coast.
