Symphony of Stone, Glass and Wood
An architectural symphony of stone, glass, and wood finely tuned by sharp geometry, this contemporary villa stands as a dramatic crescendo of vivid white angles and vernacular grey stone against its surprisingly green Cretan hilltop.
A sleek study of earthy whites, browns and grays, the harmonious geometric ensemble expands across its privileged lot, offering views from every angle, over aquamarine sea and the wild, inland White Mountain range. A pool, outdoor kitchen and multiple terraces add to the bold outline, and interiors are minimal and sleek—think black basins, exposed rock walls, deeply stained wood partitions and smooth concrete flooring. White linens and organic furnishings pop behind floor-to-ceiling glass sliders, and an in-house gym and massage suite add to the luxury, plus al fresco cooking and dining areas put indoor/outdoor living at the forefront.
AROUND
Set on a hilltop of native grass and remarkable rocky outcroppings in the community of Vamos, the panoramic villa offers views out to sea and into the hikeable White Mountains further inland. It is easily accessible to Chania, a town on the northwest coast of Crete known for its 14th-century port area of alley-like streets and waterfront restaurants. The geography of the area is unique for its stunning greenery and surprising mountain backdrop against aquamarine seas. During winter, the rugged White Mountains even receive snowfall, adding to the area’s wild allure.
Hikers can trek the mountains, finding multiple trails of varying levels, the most popular the Samaria Gorge Trail, accessible only from spring to autumn, that wends through secluded villages and dramatic landscapes. This part of the coastline is known for its rugged, rock lined coves, and its waters are ideal for swimming, scuba diving, wind- and kite-surfing, and boating. Area beaches not to be missed include Balos, Elafonissi, and Falassarna. Guided experiences are available locally in Vamos, including olive oil extraction workshops, ceramic or painting ateliers, even bell forging at a local goat herder’s studio. The village also features all necessary services.
