Just above the shoreline along the southern coast, this luxury villa in Sri Lanka was designed by architect Pradeep Kodikara to showcase and savor the intoxicating appeal of south east Asia. 

Awarded the Geoffrey Bawa design award (of the famous Lunuganga), the villa is composed of Brutalist concrete slabs and wood accents, with large, open pavilions full of light that allow the trade winds to pass through. Facing the sea and enclosed within a lovely garden oasis, it's an inner world of cool design and relaxing indulgence.

There are three en suite bedrooms that sleep up to nine guests. From upstairs, one suite boasts a view of the water from a private balcony, with three ground floor and courtyard suites featuring private gardens and terraces. A spa room wrapped in cinnamon sticks is located on top of the spa. 

Minimalist but comfortable, the spaces are designed with an easy mix of simple and colorful textiles and furnishings in a bright and chic canvas of style. 

The in-house chef prepares both traditional Sri Lankan and European fare with fresh, organic ingredients from the gardens, nearby markets and the local fisherman.

AROUND

Located at the tip of the island just over an hour from the UNESCO heritage town of Galle and the “Golden Triangle,” Tangalle is a lively fishing village along the Indian Ocean, with great beaches in easy reach including Rakewa beach where the marine turtles come to nest, whales and dolphins migrate, and from where you can partake in pilgrimages to Katharagama, the ancient Mulkirigala Temple and the famous Wewurukannara Temple.

The port city of Hambantota, and the Uda Walawe National Park, which is known for its wild elephants are both an hour from the villa. It's just over two hours north to Yala National Park for lush tropical forests and water falls and, if you're lucky, the occasional leopard sighting.

The most well preserved colonial city and fort on the island, Galle is home to the most popular beaches of Unawatuna and Thalpe, Wijaya and Midigama. Don’t miss the lowland White Tea plantations, the amazing home and gardens of Sri Lanka’s best known architect Geoffrey Bawa in nearby Lunganga, and Mirissa for whale watching and nature enthusiasts. The capital of Colombo is approximately a two hour drive.
