Nearby Miloi Beach is best known for its famed northwesterly winds that bring world class kite- and windsurfers to the island from May to September, when the island plays host to international competitions and an annual festival.

The island is connected to mainland Greece by a bridge, and a picturesque road to the capital travels between sea and lagoon, where a 14th-century fortress still stands facing the breathtaking turquoise waters. Pine forests and rocky outcroppings provide the backdrop to some of the islands’ more remote beaches, and a handful of other villages worth exploring are only a short drive away.
