An Andros Island Farm Estate Restored by its Architect Owner

Once abandoned, this 200-year-old farm estate has been lovingly restored by its owner, an architect who has blended the site’s historical elements with contemporary comforts. Former stables and sties have been transformed into inviting lodgings crafted from local materials using traditional techniques.

The estate’s focus is farm-to-table living, immersing guests in the bounty of its lush gardens and orchards and ever-changing farm landscape. The name “Ktima Lemonies” pays homage to the property’s 50+ lemon trees, and the farm is fully self-sufficient, with its own springs, orchards, cypresses, olive grove and vineyard yielding chemical-free vegetables, wine and olive oil. Daily breakfast includes freshly squeezed juices, fruit, homemade jams, organic eggs, local cheeses, breads, and honey.

The farm’s main house features a spacious common living room, fully equipped kitchen, and a terrace. There’s a communal pool, yoga gazebo, a multi-person sail hammock and several manicured courtyards. Two suites are designed for four guests, each with a king and two single beds. Three suites are ideal for couples (one a king suite, the other two doubles), and each suite has a dedicated bathroom and shower.

Outdoor spaces include a pool, as well as enclosed terraces teeming with fragrant herbs, citrus, and flowers. Al fresco dining spots are set around the farm’s garden, along with easygoing areas for lounging. The yoga gazebo, vineyard, and cultivated gardens/orchards are accessible to guests.

Located in the lush natural setting of Lamira village, just two kilometers from the island capital Chora, this beautifully restored, old farm estate covers a sprawling green space crossed by streams and covered by flourishing gardens, with an orchard, olive grove and working vineyard on site as well. The farm also has its own springs and cypress woods.

Set on Andros, the northernmost island of the Cyclades, the mountainous island is one of the closest to the Greek capital, making it a favorite destination for cosmopolitan Athenians. The capital of Andros, Chora, presents a mix of Venetian, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture, with its noble past offering architectural beauty and stately neoclassical mansions.

The island’s best known beaches are Agios Petros, Batsi and Golden Sand, though Vlychada, Agios Sostis and Halkolimnionas are the most secluded sands. Hikers love the island's green inland, crossed by hiking paths and packed with dense walnut, chestnut, and oak forests, while archeology buffs will love Palaiopolis, the island’s ancient capital as well as the prehistoric sites of Plaka and Zagora settlements. Other sites not to be missed include the Cyclades Olive Museum, a testatment to the glinting, silvery groves that cover the isle.
