A Restored Tuscan Farmhouse on a Working Chianti Estate
The colonica typology is one of the defining building forms of the Tuscan countryside—broad-shouldered, practical, built to house both a farming family and their animals across separate floors. This one, set within Tenuta La Poggiona winery estate in the heart of Chianti Classico’s rolling hills—55 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, and wilderness—has undergone a comprehensive four-year restoration with the aim of creating a peaceful retreat.
The kitchen and living room anchor the ground floor, offering generous communal space for up to nine guests. A fully equipped kitchen reflects the estate’s focus on food-led experiences. Bedrooms are distributed across the house, each with its own bathroom.
What we love
What we love about this place is that you're not visiting Chianti Classico. You're living inside it. The vines and olive groves are the garden. In the right season, you can join the harvest. Immersive experiences are at the intersection of food, nature, and art—where seasonal cuisine, the rhythms of the land, and creative expression come together.

Small group retreats (food-focused, cultural, or creative) can also be arranged. All activities are organized on-site and tailored to the group.
Good to know
La Colonica sits within a working organic estate focused on regenerative farming and has not previously been available for rental. The house is particularly suited to groups, families, or retreats of up to nine. A car is essential as the estate is set in the countryside, and the nearest town, San Casciano, is a short drive.

Around
San Casciano Val di Pesa sits at the northern edge of the Chianti Classico zone, not just geographically but culturally. The town's Monday market, medieval walls, and Museo d'Arte Sacra (which holds works by Ambrogio Lorenzetti and a Crucifix attributed to Simone Martini) make it a serious destination in its own right. Nello, on Via IV Novembre, is the town's Michelin-listed address, where chef Federico and pastry chef Chiara run a modern Tuscan tasting menu that regulars say is overdue a star. Florence is 15 kilometers north.
