Designed to Hold the Light of the Samaná Peninsula

The French architect Florian Treton has been based on the Samaná Peninsula for over a decade, and this villa is among his studio's most notable commissions. A six-bedroom home 100 meters from the beach, it's designed to hold both the light and the pace of this particular stretch of the Dominican Republic in an exciting blend of indoor and outdoor living. The tropical garden enters the house through floor-to-ceiling glass, and interiors extend outwards into the landscape via the covered terrace. This comes into its own in the evenings, when the living room opens onto the illuminated pool and sunken fire pit, and guests catch the sunset in a light breeze on the rooftop.

Much of the furniture and lighting was sourced through Milan's Bredaquaranta, known for Cassina, B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau, Baxter, Flos, and Living Divani, among others. Four of the six bedrooms are papered in Affreschi & Affreschi, the Apulian atelier that produces handcrafted plaster-based wallcoverings from a blend of 27 raw materials, including Carrara marble and Roman travertine. The Italian pieces are complemented by locally crafted accents like handcrafted wooden furniture and woven lamps, creating an interesting tension in the interior design.

The grounds cover 3,500 square meters in total, with 2,000 square meters of tropical garden designed by Daniel Nunes of Daniel Nunes Paisagismo in São Paulo. Nunes works through layering: species placed at different heights to build density and shade. The pool is made from volcanic stone Sukabami tiles imported from Indonesia, and there is a standalone jacuzzi on the rooftop.

Layout

The house covers 650 square meters across two floors, with an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area of 139 square meters anchoring the ground level. Three bedrooms are on each floor. The two master suites, one per level, are the largest rooms in the house: 48 and 43 square meters respectively, each with a bathtub and a dressing area. Four guest rooms sit alongside them, two on each floor, all en suite. A fully equipped gym, a ground-floor pool, and a rooftop jacuzzi pool with a barbecue plancha complete the picture.

Amenities & services

The kitchen is Italian-sourced and fully equipped with refrigerator, freezer, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, wine cooler, and a full set of cookware and tableware. There are three dining configurations: an indoor table in the open-plan living area, an outdoor setting beside the pool, and a rooftop barbecue plancha with its own dining setup.

All six bedrooms are air-conditioned with ceiling fans, and feature room-darkening shades, bed linens, and clothing storage. The ground-floor master suite includes a queen sofa bed for additional sleeping capacity. A fully equipped gym is available. The outdoor kitchen, fire pit, and garden furniture extend the living area into the grounds. Night security operates at the entrance from 7:00PM to 7:00AM daily, with exterior cameras covering the garden, driveway, and gate. Parking for up to four vehicles: three interior and four exterior spaces. There is step-free access throughout, with the entrance path lit at night.

No pets, no smoking, and no events or parties. Children and infants are welcome. Quiet hours are enforced. The gym has age restrictions.

Around

Las Terrenas is a beach town shaped by decades of European settlement on the Samaná Peninsula, so you'll find French bakeries, Italian restaurants, and Dominican seafood spots, with the sand a short walk from almost anywhere in town. The morning rhythm runs through café terraces and the fish stalls at Pueblo de los Pescadores, the open-air waterfront cluster that remains the town's social center. Playa Bonita, one of the peninsula's longer stretches of beach, is a short drive from the villa. Playa Cosón extends further west, palm-lined and quiet, with a handful of beachfront restaurants and minimal development behind it. Both beaches are on the Atlantic side. El Limón Waterfall is roughly 45 minutes by car, accessible by foot or horseback. Los Haitises National Park, known for its mangrove channels and limestone formations, is best reached by boat from the town of Samaná, about an hour's drive east. Between January and March, humpback whales migrate into the Bay of Samaná. Whale-watching boats operate from the town dock.
