Little House in the Vines: A French Country Retreat
This retreat on a green hill at the heart of France’s Natural Regional Park of Périgord-Limousin has been in the same family for 60 years and offers a dash of authentic country nostalgia and touch of otherworldly charm. Three upstairs bedrooms have distinct styles and views of the surrounding garden and countryside. Built around a mezzanine, the bedrooms have private bathrooms with showers and French-made linens.
Outdoors, the house is insulated by centenary trees and a calm garden. Outdoor furnishings were inspired by the Far West, an array of wood tables, a guingette-styled bar, and diverse seating for dining and lounging, a pétanque court, barbecue and views of the idyllic countryside.
Layout
Terres Lointaines offers a super-king bed (convertible to two singles), exposed stone walls and sundrenched interiors with antique furnishings and décor inspired by faraway places.

Around
The Dordogne region offers an authentic French country experience that’s long been favored by food and nature lovers. Foraging is practically a sport here, with mushrooms, nuts, fruits and wild local foods in abundance. And hikers love the area! Walking/hiking paths depart directly from the property, leading into woods and valleys dotted with ponds and streams. Yogis can practice on property, with mats and materials available on request. Rock climbers are drawn to the nearby cliffs at Jumilhac-le-Grand, and this being France, wine tastings and vineyard tours are available at small vineyards located an easy drive from the home.
The village of Jumilhac-le-Grand offers a beautiful castle with a Gallery of Gold (the town was a working gold mine from the time of the Gauls through the 20th century). Marshes, bogs, lakes, fields both wild and cultivated, and striking cliff-lined gorges make up the local landscape, and hikers, bikers, and horseback riders will likely cross paths with birds of prey, cows, and gentler woodland species. Fisherfolk can catch perch, pike and trout, and rock climbers from amateur to experienced can get on the rock at the foot of the town’s castle, at Rochers de l’Isle. Or, try your hand at gold-panning with a local guide!
The porcelain capital of Limoges, with its dozens of fine china makers, is about 45 kilometers away, and Périgeux, with its narrow maze of streets and dozens of delicious restaurants, is about 40 kilometers.
