A Historic Retreat in Gordes
Perched at the top of the hill in a close-knit village, this 18th-century home has had an enviable spot for over 300 years. Little has changed with the classic structure which has been modernized while still retaining its original character. Initially renovated in the 1950s under the guidance of the Swiss artist Hans Berger, it was again faithfully and carefully restored in 2001 and 2023.
Vertical and spacious, the home is laid out over four stories in total, with a staggered living plan ideal for large groups and individual privacy. Bright and sophisticated, the traditional character blends smartly with the eclectic selection of art and ethnic and antique decor. The graceful stone spiral stair makes a beautiful centerpiece and ascends through the home's bright, light-filled interiors. Intelligently updated so that you feel the history along with comfort and convenience, many of the original features shine alongside the modern amenities.
With five bedrooms, two bathrooms and three restrooms over three floors, the house is divided in the middle with a modern gourmet country kitchen and pass-through dining area that seats eight. There are two terraces offering breathtaking views over the plains, the Luberon and the Alpilles from this privileged spot, along with views of the cobblestoned village streets below.
This home invites you into the past while welcoming you with a refreshingly contemporary and relaxing place to enjoy with friends and family.
Layout
Spread across four stories, the residence accommodates up to eight guests easily (and at most 10 guests). The sleeping quarters comprise five bedrooms served by two bathrooms and three restrooms. The layout provides distinct zones for separation, making it suitable for mixed groups.
