A Historical Gem in the Yucatan

One of several homes restored and redesigned by a pair of American expats, this vacation home rental in Merida is a uniquely fashionable and respectful recreation of one of the city's original colonial gems. We love the elegant and historic architectural features, colorful hues and the oasis-like outdoor living spaces.

Centrally located in one the oldest barrios of Merida’s historic colonial center, this vacation home rental in the Yucatan was featured in both Travel & Leisure as well as Conde Nast Traveler and is the brainchild of a pair of expats who have since renovated over a dozen properties throughout the area. The duo's past in the world of fashion, interior design and fine arts is evident in the restoration as well as the tasteful and simple luxuries of each of their homes.

A stately and historic mansion, the home retains all of its original colonial beauty with soaring interiors, ornate architectural features and colonnades and beautiful tile work. Color washed in bright pastels, both the interiors and exteriors are authentically restored with history, comfort and style in mind. The open and airy floor plan includes a large living room that opens out to a lush terrace with a pool - unusual for a townhouse in these parts.

There is a separate sitting room on the ground floor along with two double guest rooms and a fully-equipped kitchen and dining room. Upstairs is a separate master suite with its own sitting room and private terrace. As avid collectors of crafts and antiques, the owners have filled the house with an eclectic mix of modern and vintage furnishings with elegant European pieces alongside locally crafted items.

Designed for outdoor living as well as indoor, the rooftop terraces are surrounded by giant royal palms with panoramic city views along with the secluded pool and tropical gardens.

AROUND

The capital of Mexico's Yucatan region, Merida is a bustling city of picturesque  colonial beauty, cultural riches and ancient Mayan history. The grand boulevard of Paseo de Montejo leads through the town's historic center with its cobblestone streets, tree lined plazas and slightly faded but stately 16th-century colonial buildings alongside great local markets, cheap eats and a lively neighborhood night life in the shadows of Santa Ana church.

Currently undergoing a renaissance of sorts, the town is attracting a flow of expats, artists and a few other bohemian imports from around the world but is steadfastly its own cultural creation. Located within 40 minutes of the area's famous beaches, you are also within a short drive to the area's interesting former sisal manufacturing villages of Sac Chich and Acanceh, and just under an hour from the famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Izamal and the port town of Progresso on the gulf of Mexico.

There are several historic convents including Tecoh, Muni, Mani, and Ticul as well as the Mayan Site of Mayapan along the famous convent route to explore, and the Loltun Caves and Uxmal are an hour away, as are the many amazing cenotes or secret coves where you can swim in crystal clear water. Cancun is a 3-hour drive.
