The village of Loutolim is known for its striking heritage mansions, built by the Portuguese well over a century ago. This three-bedroom villa is the ultimate heritage luxury accommodation for anyone looking for that charming traditional feel. And it's also a wonderful refuge from big-city stress.

The property has all the comforts of modern living but the earthy charm of the Goa of yesteryear. Built round a grassy courtyard and surrounded in vegetation, it is spacious and breezy. We love the elegance of the terrace that leads directly into the large outdoor pool, the simple white interiors, tiled floors and archways, as well as the combination of wooden and wrought-iron furniture.

Other cool features include the wafting muslin curtains, bursts of colorful textiles, and the little recesses in the walls for the old ponttios or paraffin lamps. The sculpted bathrooms alone are worth the stay.

The property is located in Loutolim, some 10km northeast of Margao, and among Goa's prettiest villages. It boasts narrow winding roads, impressive Portuguese heritage mansions (Casa Araujo Alvares is open to the public), and the whitewashed Church of Salvador do Mundo in its center.

From there, it's easy to reach Ancestral Goa, a kitschy theme park with a series of sculptures depicting traditional Goan lifestyle, including ‘Big Foot,’ a footprint in the rock that you can touch and make a wish on.

The house is also a 15-minute drive from the beaches of South Goa, by far the least developed of the Indian state’s seaside stretches, with miles of golden sand.
