Where the Waters Meet the Woods
This dramatic palace renovation sits on the secluded shore of a large bay next to the Baltic Sea in northwestern Poland, surrounded by vast woods. A unique historical property, the palace is now open as an event location and as an exclusive vacation rental for large groups, as well as hotel-style for individuals.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Manowce Palace is neoclassical in style and was most likely designed by Theodor Bless. In its lifetime, it has passed through many hands, but luckily its structure has remained intact.
Its first owner was Georg Wegner, the chief medical officer and director of the hospital in Szczecin Pomorzany. In 1923, the property was purchased by Eduard Silbernagel, who then sold it in 1941 to the National Socialist People’s Welfare organization, who used the palace as a training center for party members and a shelter for mothers.
Luckily, the property was not damaged during World War II. From April 1945, it was occupied by the Soviet Army and then a Border Guard Army station was located there.
From the late Forties, it found a new life as a recreational center, and for many years was a summer camp. A few years ago, it was acquired by its new owner and extensively renovated.
The property is a great mix of old and new, filled with beautiful antiques and paintings as well as modern amenities like wifi, modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. The grounds are idyllic, with access to the private shores of the lagoon. Guests can swim in the bay, or hunt for mushrooms in the woods. Kayaks, a fishing boat with rods, and bicycles are all available for use.
This is an exceptional vacation home rental in Poland for large groups, as well as being a great destination for individual guests and events. Despite its seemingly remote location, Manowce is only 45 minutes from Szczecin (Stettin), close to the border with Germany, and only 2.5 hours from Berlin.

AROUND
Szczecin Lagoon is located in the Oder estuary and shared by Germany and Poland, and separated from the Baltic Sea by the islands of Usedom and Wolin. This is a great location for outdoor activities like sailing, fishing, bird watching, and golf.
The open waters of the Baltic Sea are accessible in half an hour by motorboat, so sailing and rod-fishing enthusiasts can enjoy both the bay and the sea. For golfers, an hour’s journey by car or motorboat brings you to six 18-hole golf courses, three in Poland and three in Germany. Additional activities like hunting can be arranged.
