An 18th-Century Apulian Masseria Reimagined
The owners, seeking a deeper connection to the region, envisioned this restoration as a way to honor Apulian heritage. The project revived the 18th-century structure, focusing on authentic materials and traditional craftsmanship. The goal was to create a place that feels both historically grounded and refined, balancing the masseria’s rustic bones with clean, modern sensibilities. Inside, whitewashed walls and cocciopesto floors create a simple backdrop for the building’s strong architectural forms.
The property is centered on a lush garden of fruit trees and a natural stone pool, complete with a waterfall and open-air shower. Two distinct lounge areas, one by the pool and one on a private solarium, offer places for repose. An outdoor kitchen is ideal for dinners under the stars, while the 300-square-meter panoramic rooftop terrace is dedicated to wellness and relaxation.
What we love
Masseria Gemini is a true hidden gem with an extraordinary history, charm, and an exceptional location. And it's also just a short drive to the beaches of Torre San Giovanni, often referred to as the "Maldives of Italy." We love the architectural integrity of the estate to the design elements that celebrate Apulian heritage, and of course the high level of hospitality experience the owners have created. A team favorite is the private movie theater.
Layout
The masseria sleeps 10 guests across five independent suites, each with its own entrance and en-suite bathroom. The ground floor hosts three king-bed suites. The upper floor contains the fourth king suite and the fifth studio suite, which features a French bed. Living spaces flow easily toward the central courtyard, connecting the interiors with the garden and multiple terraces for a classic Mediterranean indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
Experiences
The home’s team can arrange cooking classes focused on local cuisine, private chef services for special dinners, and wellness sessions such as yoga, Pilates, or massages, which can be enjoyed on the terrace.
Good to know
The property is fully serviced with daily cleaning and an in-house maid. The fifth suite is slightly smaller, fitted with a French bed, making it ideal for a couple, a single guest, or as a private office. While the village of Gemini is quiet, a car is recommended to explore Ugento and the nearby Salento beaches.
