A Respectful Renovation in an Italian Olive Grove
A vast renovated masseria buoyed in citrus and olive groves near the legendary white village of Ostuni, this traditional structure’s update was directed by architect Massimo Brambilla of Acqua di Puglia studio, who transformed the generous building’s timeless beauty into a modern retreat for up to 15 guests.
One Masseria, Two Souls
Set as it is at the heart of citrus and centenary olive groves, this traditional farmhouse in the photogenic Salento countryside merges timeless interiors with alfresco charms. With six ensuite bedrooms, each with access to the property’s outdoor courtyard, the vast country home reveals authentic details in exposed stone walls, old timber ceiling beams, and simple stone floors. These original features are dressed up by modern lines, spare furnishings and subtle, earth-toned accents.
The property’s outdoor spaces are as important as its interiors, its 11,000 square meter lot home to olive and citrus groves, a classic outdoor garden, a 4m x 10m swimming pool, a covered outdoor dining and food prep (kitchen, pizza oven) area, an Agape tub in the orchard, and outdoor showers. Sun beds sit atop stone platforms, adding to the curated outdoor setting.
Around
An easy five-minute drive from both Ostuni and Carovigno, with the sea a quick 15-minute drive away, the property is surrounded by olive and citrus groves. The white town of Ostuni is impossibly pretty, and the property is within minutes of several beaches such as Torre Guacetto. Other ancient towns that make easy day trips include Cisternino, with its dizzying maze of streets, the UNESCO-designated Alberobello with its darling trulli, the charming circular village of Locorotondo, and Baroque beauty Martina Franco.
Alluring Lecce and the well-heeled port town of Polignano al Mare are a bit further, though easily reached via a drive through the picturesque countryside. This area of Italy offers amazing food, wine and olive oil, plus miles of stunning Adriatic coastline, with some of its loveliest beaches on the Costa Merlata. Check out the small fishing harbor of Savelletri and the town of Ceglie Messapica, home to great seafood and other cuisine. The Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve includes a widely protected marine and wilderness area perfect for exploring the coastline’s beauty, and the Adriatic Sea’s cliffside views and coved beaches are unforgettable.
