Located along the banks of the Minho River, this vacation home for rent in Portugal is designed in the striking Brutalist style by Portuguese architect Pedro Ramalho. Constructed of raw concrete in alternating geometric forms, the bold lines create a distinctive impression on the riverside lot.

The interiors are awash in natural light from oversized walls of glass facing both the river and the pool. The main living area is an elongated open form that includes the living and dining area and a partitioned fully-equipped kitchen.

Down the hall there are four double en-suite bedrooms (that accommodate up to eight), two of which open out to the gardens and pool deck.

The simple modern theme is punctuated with a unique and colorful selection of art pieces and furnishings from the owners' personal collection.

Outside, the gated gardens are grassy and private with several terraces and patios to enjoy dining or hanging out by the pool from where you can admire the peaceful river views.

AROUND

Snaking along the northernmost border with Spain, the Minho River region is one of Portugal's most beautiful waterways on the Iberian peninsula. Flowing almost 200 miles in length, the river ends at Caminha on the Atlantic. The nearby village of Vila Nova de Cerveira orbits around river life with much of the area's activity focused on the enjoying the waterway and the old town center with its imposing 14th-century fortified castle.

Just 20 miles from the Costa Verde and the medieval town of Viana do Castelo, the northern reaches of Portugal include some of the country's best beaches including Moledo, Caminha, Afife and Cabedelo. The Lima Valley is just over 30 minutes, and Porto is an hour south. Vigo and Santiago di Compostela in Spain make great day trips.
