Dolomites Duo: Futuristic Architectural Escapes by Peter Pichler
Surrounded by apple orchards and stunning views of the Tyrolean Dolomites, this dramatic pair of houses inhabits a beautiful landscape just outside the town of Bolzano. Designed by local architect Peter Pichler, the futuristic duo blends with the natural environment, rather than competing with it.
Dramatic Architectural Duo in the Dolomites By Architect Peter Pichler
Designed by local architect Peter Pichler, this futuristic duo in a striking Dolomites landscape near Bolzano blends with the natural environment, rather than competing with it. The two distinctive units were Pichler's first critically acclaimed architectural project.
Closely connected but slightly articulated in height and length, the homes' mirrored exteriors mask the western façades, reflecting the nearby Mendel mountains with graceful curvilinear contours and towering cantilevered roof lines.
The interiors are immaculately conceived with sleek but simple modern finishes and hotel quality comforts. The simple modern decor and furnishings were designed by Italian company Plank with nut wood screens and accents.
The eastern-oriented terraces and gardens offer amazing views, blurring the lines between the scenery and the structures, seamlessly capturing the surrounding panorama and the architectural drama.
Layout
Self-contained and private, each of the dwellings is equipped for four, featuring a bright open-plan living room, kitchen and en-suite bedroom, plus one double Gervasoni sofa bed that can accommodate two additional guests.
Additional features
Wifi throughout, TV and laundry facilities, bathrobes and toiletries, on-site parking, swimming pool (unheated, open May to October).
Around
Situated on the frontier of Europe’s largest Alpine plateaus, Alpe di Siusi, the northern Italian Dolomites feature picturesque all-season environments, from the grassland plateaus and pine forests to the south-eastern ski slopes of Obereggen. Just a 10-minute drive from the house, the center of Bolzano offers a charming fusion of both the pre-war Austro-Hungarian culture and the best of northern Italy. A guide is provided for guests upon arrival.
The nearest ski resorts are both just over a half hour's drive from the home, the Seiser Alm/Alpe di Suisi resort which is great for beginners and intermediate skiers, and Obereggen which is the favored local mountain for solidly intermediate and advanced boarders and skiers. The area is also famed for its all-season hiking options, with more than 3,500 mapped trails nearby.
