A Sculptural Lake House for Modernists
The sculptural form was born from the site’s unique topography, inspiring a trapezoidal plan of sloped planes and elegant cantilevers. Architect Randy Bens designed the dark exterior to give way to a lighter, wood-accented interior, creating a dialogue between shelter and landscape.
Interiors by Jenna Josephson are open and clean, focusing attention on the views of the lake and snow-topped mountains. The main floor’s living, dining, and kitchen area is a single space designed for connection, with large glass doors that retract to invite the outside in.
The upper balcony is furnished for alfresco dining and lounging, with an outdoor barbecue. Below, a lower deck leads to the water. A private dock provides a launchpad for kayaks and swimming, while a fire pit at the water's edge offers a perfect spot for evening (or winter) gatherings.
What we love
The lakefront location is stunning and inviting for summer and winter activities due to the proximity of the mountains. We also love the design of the home which was built on a challenging piece of land and the maximization of the outdoor space. We want to cook in that kitchen with that view.
Layout
This vacation home sleeps up to eight guests and is arranged over three levels. The top floor serves as the social heart, with an open-plan kitchen, dining space, living room, and a large balcony with barbecue. The second level has a flex room and two king-sized en-suite bedrooms. The bottom level has an en-suite bedroom with a queen bed/bunk/trundle that sleeps four, plus a media room, kitchenette and walkout to a lower deck with direct lake access. There is seating space on all three levels.
Good to know
The property is built on a steep hillside and its layout includes multiple sets of stairs, both indoors and out, which may not be suitable for guests with mobility challenges. A car is essential for exploring the region and reaching nearby parks like Manning Provincial Park.
