A Portuguese Quinta Transformed into a Sanctuary for Slow Living
Originally a working farm, this quinta was revived to bridge the gap between preservation and contemporary whimsy. The design avoids over-staging, opting for an eclectic mix of Scandinavian minimalism and traditional Portuguese craft. It is a house where light plays against Veronese blue accents and century-old olive trees provide a natural structural intent to the outdoor living spaces.
The 40,000-square-meter grounds are a tapestry of pomegranate, citrus, and gnarled cork oaks. A linear 12-meter saltwater pool (filtered via an osmosis system) is the centerpiece, surrounded by sunbeds and shaded by spiky cypress trees. Multiple terraces include a summer kitchen with a built-in grill and a large marble dining table.
What we love
Nineteenth-century farmhouse bones meet a sophisticated mix of Scandinavian minimalism and globally curated artifacts. This isn't your typical polished resort. It’s a sanctuary of wild almond trees, lime-washed walls, and a stunning 12-meter saltwater pool. With a dedicated house manager who can arrange anything from private chefs to sound healing, it offers a deeply "managed" escape that feels authentic, and worlds away from the Algarve crowds.
Layout
This vacation home for rent in the Algarve sleeps up to 10 guests. The residence is split between the main house and a standalone guesthouse located 30 meters away. The central living room features a monumental fireplace and deep-set windows, while the dining room houses an oak table seating 10. There is an Entertainment Room filled with art books as well as a professional-grade kitchen.
There are five bedrooms: the two-story Tower Suite with a private panoramic terrace, the Garden Suite with an 18th-century fireplace, a Terrace Suite, and a single Studio. The guesthouse provides privacy with its own rooftop terrace, while the main house flow encourages communal gathering in the open-plan social zones.
Experiences
Bookable experiences include private cooking classes with Chef Paula or sunset horseback riding. The house manager can coordinate wellness sessions including Ashtanga yoga and sound healing on the terrace. For those venturing out, the concierge provides a guidebook to the region’s best oyster shacks and pottery workshops in nearby Loulé.
Good to know
Professional staffing includes a local house manager and housekeeping three times a week. Parents should note the pool is not gated, and there are several wild garden levels. Starlink internet is provided throughout, though the thick stone walls might occasionally disrupt signals.
