A Sculptural Retreat in the Catskills

Set within 17 private wooded acres above the historic hamlet of Margaretville, Moonlight Mountain House is a minimalist A-frame that offers a blend of modern design, elemental materials, and immersive natural connection. Its owners searched the region for six months before finding the perfect location and spent three years designing and building their dream retreat, a home that respects the landscape around it.

From the crisp lines of its dramatic pitch to the softness of curated textures by Jen Bienvenu Interiors, the home is anchored by an open-plan living area, with cathedral-height ceilings and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Every vantage is a vignette of the forest.

The heart of the home is a chef’s kitchen curated by a Michelin-star chef—outfitted with high-performance appliances and generous prep surfaces. The adjacent dining area flows into the deck for open-air meals against the backdrop of ancient trees.

Sleeping quarters include four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The primary suite features a bath sanctuary with a floor-to-ceiling window. A second upstairs bedroom opens onto a private balcony. The lofted third bedroom, tucked under the A-frame roofline, invites stargazing through eight skylights.
