Spice Island Luxuries and Epic Natural Beauty in Grenada
Situated on a privately owned 6.5 acre peninsula, this luxury beach house for rent in Grenada certainly goes long on luxury, but it also celebrates the island's great natural beauty. An all-inclusive experience of out-and-out extravagance and adventure, the property offers the benefits of a private island and the pampering and excitement of a world-class resort.
Commanding its spot, but with lovely organic forms that don't disrupt the stunning scenery, the estate is a rambling affair, made up of several unique accommodations with some surprises that make it all the more enchanting.
With its private (man-made) wraparound beach, swim-up tiki bar, outdoor movie screen, and 50-person firepit, as well as multiple pools, the massive property was designed to keep you completely entertained. The hosts can also arrange for theme nights and special events with steel pan bands and musical guests, poker nights, and even fireworks displays.
Staffed with a team of luxury hospitality experts, including one of the top chefs in the Caribbean, you will want for nothing here. Each of the numerous spaces is individually decorated, mixing traditional (a nod to the long-standing British heritage of the island), organic and futuristic, and pure modernism, all with a natural sense of island ease.
Almost spaceship-like, the main building blends and conforms to the mountain instead of dominating it, with sustainable grass roofs and curious undulating forms, and is comprised of four extra-large suites on the ground floor, three of which include their own private balconies, and all feature breathtaking views.
Accessed from an outside stairway, the three additional suites on the top floor, each have large bi-fold doors that open one entire length of the room onto a private deck. There is a large separate kitchen for guests or staff use to service these areas. The unique two-story poolside tower, or folly suite, includes a top-floor bedroom with stunning private views out over the bay.
On the private beach below is a four-bedroom villa with a sitting room that opens up fully onto the beach, with an outdoor tiki kitchen, lounge, and large dining area. There is another small indoor kitchen as well. Each of the four large suites can be accessed independently, with one that opens up directly onto the private pool and another opening out to the gardens.
Across the small road that divides the estate is the brand new bay-view villa. A purely contemporary home done in whites and grays, with polished elegant interiors, the all-in-one villa includes a massive sitting room and bar, along with a large open-plan kitchen. Every room in the villa has floor-to-ceiling sliding or bi-fold doors with breathtaking views of the bay, including from each bedroom's private balcony.
Ensconced in over an acre of private gardens with its own pool and outdoor dining areas, it affords extra privacy but with immediate access to the property's amenities and beach. The property's lush gardens are staggered out over the hillsides among the many outdoor dining and play areas. There's also a fully-equipped gym with optional yoga and fitness services.
The estate's privately captained motor cruiser is stationed at the dock and can take you around the bays for exploring, fishing, and water sports.
From its privileged spot on the island, this vast estate is an immersive and indulgent experience that is meant to be shared.
BRITISH HERITAGE AND TROPICAL DELIGHTS
Comprised of a small archipelago of islands in the Caribbean, the country of Grenada's main island was aptly named the “Spice Isle” from years as a colonial spice hub and the many nutmeg, cacao, and vanilla plantations established in the 18th century. Making it all the more intoxicating. British through and through, including driving on the left, the island proudly highlights its heritage.
The island's bustling capital and harbor town of St. George is a cheery jumble of colorful houses nestled together with the Georgian-era architecture just north of the main, two-mile-long beach, Grand Anse. Blessedly devoid of too much development and glitzy resorts beyond the city's borders, the island is more historic and provincial than some of its glamorous neighbors in the Caribbean. And that's what makes it all the more appealing to some of us.
There is nightlife to be sure, and a budding foodie culture in the capital, but be sure to visit the aromatic Market Square (on weekends) with its array of spices, crafts, fresh produce, and vendors to get a true flavor of the island. The owners can recommend the best white sand beaches, numerous waterfalls to explore and swim in, and jungle treks in the rugged mountains.
