This unique award-winning home is the collaborative creation of Los Angeles based architects and native Icelanders and puts the focus on environmental design and modern living. Located along the "Golden Circle" route in a quiet rural area just inland from Reykjavik, the home stands out with its clean, sleek contemporary lines and simple eco-conscious design.

Employing innovative organic and recycled materials and sustainable environmentally responsible building practices, the home was inspired by the raw beauty and unique features of the land and pays homage to the primitive and traditional Icelandic mud houses. Constructed and designed to integrate thoroughly into the landscape, the home focuses on functionality, progressive design and carefree living.

A unified theme of concrete, wood and walls of glass frame the open plan living spaces allowing for abundant natural light and a seamless connection with nature. The kitchen, dining and living areas form the spacious focal point of the house and are ideal for entertaining with family and friends. With two bedrooms and a sleeping loft, the house can accommodate up to six guests.

Just over an hour’s drive inland from the cultural and urban center of the capital of Reykjavik, the rural area of Biskupstungur is part of the “Golden Circle” route, where Eurasia meets North America and features amazing natural beauty.

Adjacent to Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Thingvallavatn (the largest lake in Iceland), Lake Pingvallavatn, is also just a short distance away. Hengill volcanic area, the river Öxará, Gullfoss waterfall, the hot springs area of Geysir, and the Kerid crater are all nearby and offer both winter and summer attractions.
