A Sweet Perch for Two on La Palma's Northwest Coast

This vacation home for rent in the Canary Islands is located on the northwest coast of La Palma, with remarkable views of the Atlantic Ocean. Set on a large plot of land with verdant gardens, it's a blend of traditional Canarian style and Mediterranean details, but it also has all the modern amenities you'll need for a relaxing stay. We love the vividly colored exterior in deep terracotta, with pops of electric blue, that jump out from among the foliage.

The focal point of the home's interior is the living room with large windows that flood the space with light, high ceilings with exposed beams, and classic Mediterranean terracotta-tiled floors. There's a large, solid wood dining table for feasting, and a woodburning stove for cooler nights. The use of tile is a great feature, with travertine in the bathroom and shimmering blues in the kitchen. We particularly like the Moroccan hammered silver sink.

Walk out of the house and you'll find a terrace that expands in parts outward over the verdant slopes of the hillside, with its cascades of flowers and shrubs. The bedroom has its own stone terrace with majestic ocean views.  Keep walking and you're in the wilds of La Palma, with countless opportunities for hiking and exploring.

This vacation home for rent in the Canary Islands is located in Puntagorda, a village in the northwest of La Palma, a heart-shaped island filled with secluded beaches, volcanoes and dense forests. Situated between the ravines of Garome and Izcagua, Puntagorda is surrounded in pine and almond trees and famous for its almond blooms in January and February. Come in February for the Almendro en Flor festival, which features music, dancing, and free almond and palm wines, or in August for the Patron festivities in honor of San Mauro Abad.

Make the most of beautiful nearby outdoor spaces at the Barranco de Izcagua and the El Fayal Wood. At weekends, the village hosts a popular market, the Mercadillo, with local produce, wine and cheese, as well as artisan products.

La Palma is famous for its clear night skies with minimal light pollution, so expect to see skies full of stars. Take it one step further at the observatory of the Roque de Los Muchacho, one the largest in the world, which is open to visitors with advance reservations.
