Playa Hermosa Jungle Estate
This solitary beachfront estate stands on nearly 10 lush, jungle acres and offers over 15,000 square feet of breezy, cabana-styled living space. Here, ceilings soar over slide-away walls and glass doors, beds are sized for kings, and each of the property’s four independent buildings boasts its own saltwater pool and outdoor living area. To top it all off, the estate has a staff of 19, including a private chef, dedicated host and security detail.
A white sand beach stretches silently for 700 secluded feet in each direction outside this generous shoreline residence on Costa Rica’s deliciously remote Nicoya Peninsula. Insulated by fertile vegetation, the waterfront sanctuary offers open-concept lounge areas that transition from indoors to out. Each relaxed zone is outfitted in a cool, coastal style, with palapa-topped sun- and daybeds poolside, Guanacaste and teak wood furnishings, natural textiles and airy accent décor in woven cane, seagrass and wicker. Outside, tropical vegetation overflows from planters and beds, and the beach beckons just steps from the manicured estate.
AROUND
A quick stroll down to the Playa Hermosa on the Nicoya Peninsula, this beachfront estate is a few kilometers north of Santa Teresa, a world-class surf community known for its laid-back vibes and big waves. Once a quiet, if industrious, fishing village, Santa Teresa is now a happening tropical outpost where family-run cafes and beach taverns join creative restaurants and cocktail bars on unpopulated sands and colorful, cabana-lined streets. Shops range from designer to low-key, and the town is home to a thriving alternative lifestyle and wellness community of yogis, seekers, athletes, expats and sun worshippers.
Santa Teresa’s beaches attract expert surfers and beginners, with warm tropical waters and constant waves ideal for learning. Beyond wave catching, the estate’s dedicated concierge can assist with booking snorkeling and horseback riding outings. A great place for hikers, the villa is located near the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, where guided tours lead through the lush rainforest to discover a dizzying variety of flora and fauna. A rainforest canopy tour is available to the Montezuma Waterfalls, where you can grab a post-tour swim and visit the village of Montezuma. Kayaking is available in the Curu Wildlife Refuge, a mangrove ecosystem of calm bays teeming with vegetation and wildlife. Alternatively, choose a butterfly tour or a bioluminescence expedition. Yet, nature lovers can get their fill without ever leaving the property, as tiger herons and howler monkeys roam by day, and hermit crabs scramble at night.
