Hills, Hulls, and Heritage
Located 40 minutes from Lisbon in the coastal countryside of Torres Vedras, this property sits on 66 acres of private valleys where owls hoot at dusk and the Atlantic breeze tempers the heat. The architecture preserves the original farmhouse’s sturdy vernacular, while the interiors introduce a clean, efficient aesthetic characterized by natural textures, wood-beamed ceilings, and local stone.
Founded by American expats with a background in design, the renovation was a labor of love completed at the end of 2023. Abandoning formal blueprints for a "soul-first" approach, the owners revitalized two separate structures—a sprawling farmhouse and a cozy cottage. The interiors celebrate a tactile, "nesting" atmosphere. Exposed timber beams and whitewashed walls provide a neutral canvas for bespoke design elements. The farmhouse living area centers around a fireplace for cool valley evenings, while large windows frame the shifting light of the surrounding hills. Modern kitchens are equipped for entertaining.
The 66-acre grounds are a tapestry of wild fields and hiking trails. A central panoramic pool nestled in a large lawn serves as the property’s social heart. Multiple seating areas provide spots for stargazing or coffee at dawn, and there is a traditional bread oven perfect for making pizza and roasts. The "managed" wildness of the landscape allows children to roam free through wildflower fields while adults enjoy the shaded barbecue and lounge areas.
What we love
We love how the owners took a "soul-first" approach to this restoration, keeping the farmhouse bones while creating a warm, modern and welcoming feel. It’s that rare kind of place that feels both lived in and incredibly fresh, with sun-drenched rooms that beg you to slow down. Imagine walking through the wildflowers before heading to the pool. That's the exact kind of slow pace we look for.
