Historical Preservation Meets Mediterranean Living on Cres Island
In Vidovići, a village of only a few dozen inhabitants on Cres Island, House 11 is a meticulous restoration of a 200-year-old Mediterranean dwelling, using traditional materials to preserve the soul of the structure. The interiors celebrate the original 18th-century footprint. On the first level, a sitting room centers around a preserved historic oven, leading to a kitchen designed for communal living. The second floor offers a bright second lounge and a large primary bedroom with a mezzanine gallery. Throughout, the palette is muted, allowing the texture of the original stone to provide the primary visual interest.
A large south-facing terrace acts as an outdoor living room, offering a vantage point over green pastures against the blue of the Adriatic. Guests also have access to a nearby covered lounge and a "Guvno"—a traditional stone threshing floor repurposed as a terrace for sunset viewing. An outdoor shower provides a connection to the elements.
What we love
What makes this project so compelling is the way twin sisters Nataša and Ingrid have balanced meticulous historical preservation with a sharp, artistic eye. By restoring these ancient stone structures in the secluded hilltop of Vidovići, they’ve created a dialogue between 200-year-old heritage and sophisticated minimalist design. Staying at House 11 feels less like a traditional rental and more like inhabiting a living gallery.
