A Secluded Mountain Retreat Close to the Ski Slopes
A Slovenian family fell for Hohentauern and decided to stay, transforming a traditional guesthouse into Sloho. The name itself is a portmanteau of their two homes: Slovenia and Hohentauern. The design is their story, written in custom carpentry, local reclaimed wood, and cherished antiques from their homeland. It is personal, warm, and deeply rooted in place. Each apartment features a crackling wood-burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen, and comfortable, modern furnishings. The owners’ favorite colors and personal heirlooms add character, making each of the apartments unique.
Each Bergschau'n apartment features a private, enclosed garden, making it ideal for guests with dogs. The clear focal point is the personal sauna house, available for exclusive use.
What we love
This is a passion project, not a corporate chain. We love the Bergschau'n units for their private garden saunas. Plus, the on-site coffee shop means you are never far from a perfect espresso.
Layout
The units sleep two to four guests each. The four ground-floor Bergschau'n apartments are designed for private wellness. While sizes vary from 25 to 60 square meters, they typically feature one bedroom and a living room. Each includes a full kitchen, a modern bathroom, and a living area with a wood stove, opening directly onto a private, fenced garden with a personal sauna hut.
Experiences
On-site offerings focus on regional flavor. Order the Frühstückskisterl, a breakfast basket filled with local farm products, delivered to your door. Guests can use the communal Zirbenholz sauna or enjoy the private saunas in the Bergschau'n units. In the house-owned coffee lounge, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views and discover a small shop filled with lovingly curated little delights.
Good to know
The apartments are on the ground floor and have fenced gardens, making them suitable for guests with pets. Up to four dogs are allowed on the whole property at any time, for an additional fee, so please inquire before bringing your pet. The property is located directly on the ski slope and cross-country trail. In winter, snow chains for your car are recommended.
Starting May 1, 2026, Sloho will be operated as an adults-only accommodation (ages 18+).

Around
Sloho sits at 1,274 meters in Hohentauern, the smallest village in Styria. You are directly on the ski slopes and cross country slopes and hiking trails of the Rottenmanner Tauern mountains. The "Wasserweg" (Water Way) trail is a gentle walk nearby, and guests can try mountain biking, snowshoeing, or even fishing. For a different kind of horsepower, the Red Bull Ring is approximately 45 minutes away by car. The central location is ideal for exploring the Murtal region, though a car is essential for discovering the area's alpine culture and accessing nearby towns.
