A Historic Home in Upstate New York’s Finger Lakes Region
On 275 feet of the Owasco River’s banks, with more than 4,000 square feet of living space, this 1907 house offers six bedrooms with nine beds, two and a half bathrooms, an oversized movie room, a hot tub, a fire pit on the lawn, and a pontoon boat ready to take guests to Owasco Lake. Plus, it’s pet friendly.
One of the historic homes in the For the Love of Upstate portfolio, a hospitality brand by Madi Johnson and Skyler Vaught dedicated to turning Upstate New York’s forgotten homes into unforgettable stays, the house’s expert restoration celebrates regional architecture. An elegant stairwell, sash and leaded windows, decorative radiators and woodworking, and antique fixtures paired with modern appliances and accented by period-inspired modern furnishings make this elegant getaway a one-of-a-kind stay.
Around
Set on the Owasco river a 10-minute ride from the stunning lake of the same name, this house has enough on-property entertainment options to make it an ideal stay-at-home holiday retreat. Besides the waterfront, there’s a hot tub, grill and fire pit with ample seating, a pool table, ping pong table, vast movie-watching lounge, and bar.
The town of Auburn offers restaurants, grocers, cafes, and sightseeing, including grand historic homes open for visits (The Seward House, The Harriet Tubman home). First home to the Tuscarora tribe of Iroquois, the town became a milling community with European settlement. Today, the Finger Lakes draw visitors to the region, who come for water recreation on Owasco Lake, the smallest and warmest of the region’s scenic waters. Canoeing, kayaking and SUPing are possible on the lake, and fishing is a year-round sport, with anglers coming for pike, trout and smallmouth bass. Lake swimming offers chilly refreshment, and walkers and trail runners can enjoy paths around the lake’s periphery, while cyclists pass the area on the Finger Lake cycling route. Art and culture seekers can enjoy a surprising number of small museums and cultural centers in the community, including the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center and the Cayuga Museum of History and Art, as well as the NY Equal Rights Center.
