Centrally located within a quiet neighborhood of downtown Reykjavik, this vacation home for rent in Iceland is part of the oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods in the city. Built in the 19th century, the house served as the former home of the city's watchman, and is thought to have originally been part of a turf farm long since gone. 

Brought back to life from an unremarkable structure to its former beauty, the owners only lightly redesigned the interiors using original materials and building techniques that reflect the cultural spirit of Iceland. 

The ground floor living room is a cozy space with a fully equipped kitchen and small bath while upstairs the loft floor houses two sleeping areas that can accommodate up to four guests. Surrounded by lovely seasonal gardens, the property has an outdoor grill and dining area for those long days of midnight sun.

AROUND

Located in the quiet and historic neighborhood of Grjotaþorpid, the house is within a block from the city center and within easy walking distance of the areas best shops, restaurants and museums. 

One of the oldest developed sections of town as well as the entire country, the area's picturesque streets, houses and gardens reflect a simpler time in the country's history. Close to the many great bicycle and walking paths along the harbor and the coastline, you can enjoy both the city or venture out to the famous scenic spots around the capital where you'll find the most spectacular natural features of the island including the “Golden Circle” route, where Eurasia meets North America. 

The Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Thingvallavatn Lake (the largest lake in Iceland) are within a short drive as are Hengill volcanic area, the river Öxará, Gullfoss waterfall, the hot springs area of Geysir, and the Kerid crater, all offering both winter and summer attractions.
