Creative Pacific Beach House
Creatively combining timber, natural elements, and whimsical sculptural accents across its vivid, open-plan spaces, this contemporary, newly constructed villa at the end of a jungle road stands literally steps from the sea.
The rainbow-shaped beach house offers a unique, aquatic interior décor touch, found in large-scale driftwood, barnacle, and shell-inspired furnishings created by the owners. Beamed ceilings, gingerbread trim, and rich wood floors contrast white beadboard walls, giving the space its airy, tropical beach house atmosphere. And the home sleeps 15, with each of the villa’s five spacious ensuite bedrooms also home to an overflow twin bed, making it ideal for a small group or gathering of families. Step outside to the covered terrace for alfresco living, with seating and lounging, dining, and cooking around the pool and outdoor shower, outdoor living spaces separated from the sea only by the thick green lawn and skyscraper palms.
Around
Located steps from the beach, the palm-insulated home puts the Pacific coastline front and center. Go left at the sand in front of the house to reach Playa Junquillal, a wild sandy stretch awarded one Costa Rica’s Ecological Blue Flags. Or, take a car and head to Blanca Beach or Callejones Beach for more abundant tropical beauty. The town grocery at Junquillal is a five-minute drive, and the local community offers turtle sighting guided tours, snorkeling and diving outings, ATV rentals, rainforest canopy tours and horseback expeditions as well as yoga, spa, massage and a handful of fresh cafes and restaurants serving local, seasonal fare. Tide pools cover the beach right in front of the villa and are great for easy exploring. Or, grab a jet ski or kayak and get out on the water. Eco tour operators lead guided hikes into the jungle and mountains, with hikes including visits local favorites, Rincon de la Vieja, Tempisque, and the Arenal Volcano. Golfers can enjoy the courses at Hacienda Pinilla and Canopy Vista Tamarindo, a bit further away, and the area is well served by wildlife guides, who can arrange inland viewing adventures to see monkeys, iguanas, and colorful tropical bird life.
