The Soul of the Alentejo
Villa Quail was conceived as a dialogue between indoor comfort and the wild Alentejo landscape. The design language honors Comporta’s heritage of simple cabanas while introducing a contemporary, gallery-like atmosphere. The fern and forest motif is woven through the property, from the shadows cast by the pergolas to the tactile, natural materials used in every room.
Each of the three suites features custom-built furnishings and a layout that maximizes the visual flow between the bedroom and the forest terrace. Large-format windows serve as canvases, intentionally omitting distractions to prioritize the social currency of the view. The floor plan is designed so that even from the bathtub, the forest remains your constant companion.
A private deck extends from the living area to the infinity pool, surrounded by the estate’s 12 hectares of protected land. For the active guest, the shared tennis court and ping pong table are a short walk through the trees. The outdoor dining area, shaded by a natural pergola, provides a condensed space for sunset rituals, where the scent of resin and sea air creates an organic ambiance unique to this coastline.
What we love
We love how the clean, sharp lines of the house cut through the wild landscape of the nature reserve, making the whole place feel like a modern art gallery in the middle of the woods. Those massive picture windows pull the trees and the light right into the living room, so you’re always connected to the outdoors. Our favorite spot is the rooftop terrace for sunset drinks and relaxed evenings overlooking the surrounding hills.
