Villa Venetia is listed as a historical monument by the Greek archeological authorities, and it respects its heritage and architectural significance with sophisticated, stylish ease. Built in the early 15th century, it is set in the hills above Maroulas, which is also recognized by the Greek government as an important heritage site.

Sitting above the town with stunning views out to sea, the home has been lovingly and carefully restored highlighting the beautiful architectural characteristics while including some luxurious and sophisticated touches. It's also large, ideal for family events, and sits within easy reach of three seasonal taverns.

The classic Venetian construction was considered state of the art in the Middle Ages and has stood the test of time. The exposed stone and graceful arches inside and out pair nicely with sleek new marble floors, large bay windows that brighten and expand the interiors, and lofty ceilings. Luxurious but family-friendly, this traditional home is understated, with comfortable but refined furnishings and decor.

With five double bedrooms and four baths, the villa sleeps up to twelve guests and features warm, expansive living spaces inside and out. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped to serve everyone inside or poolside and comes with a fully stocked wine cellar. Head to the rooftop terrace for some stunning views over the Aegean or enjoy the pool in privacy and peace in the walled gardens.

AROUND

Just above the historically significant village of Maroulas, you are situated just a few miles from the Venetian harbor town of Rethymno. A medieval fortified town, Maroulas is classified as an archeological heritage site and remains very charming and old world. Some of the best beaches including Platanias are just a few miles away along the scenic coastline, and there are three taverns within walking distance.

The house is the ideal starting point for exploring the whole island as it is located in the middle of the north coast with direct access to the south.
