We love a cottage by the sea, and this cabin rental in Nova Scotia is located in a place of spectacular beauty and privacy. Charming and full of character, it’s a welcoming and cozy retreat for two within minutes of the famous Cabot Trail and all the natural beauty of Cape Breton Island.
Perched on a cliff in complete seclusion overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, this cottage rental in Nova Scotia is situated near the renowned Cabot Trail surrounded by over 150 acres of fields, forest and windswept highlands.
The coastal design mimics the maritime architecture of the region with cedar-shingle construction and a whitewashed horizontal-board interior. Designed and built by artists and native Canadians, the house is a labor of love that reflects their appreciation for the area, its culture, history and traditions.
Charming and comfortable, the open-plan living space features beams and vaulting ceilings that lend it a bright and airy feel, with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area surrounded by windows for spectacular views. Finished with both rustic and contemporary furnishings and decor, the cottage is welcoming and homey, with one cozy bedroom for two.
Outside, the large deck is positioned perfectly for spotting lobster boats, eagles, moose, bobcats, and the whales which pass by most of the year, and from where you’ll catch dramatic sunsets and panoramic views. You can also fire up the grill for dining alfresco.
A world of natural beauty is at your doorstep, from the warm sands of Chimney Corner beach, to the world-renowned Margaree river (great for wild salmon and trout fishing), the Cabot Trail and the stunning National Park.
Around
Located at the eastern end of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island lies between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean. The famous Cabot Trail roadway encircles the island, passing through rugged coastline and forests and along the edges of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and takes you through spectacularly beautiful areas.
Less than 30 minutes north of the cottage, the Park has an extensive network of hiking trails, including the Skyline Trail that overlooks the Gulf, as well as dramatic waterfalls, rivers and highlands.
Both the fabulous beach and bluffs of Whale Cove and the beaches and lighthouses of Margaree Harbor are just a few minutes away, while the beach nearest the cottage is ideal for swimming in warm months.
Head south on the dramatically beautiful Broad Cove Road on your way to the town of Inverness, with it’s great pubs, cafés and local music. Strike out for nearby Margaree, where there are some great craft shops and a famous eatery. With its mix of Celtic, Acadian and First Nations cultures, the island has a rich history and unique traditions with various music and cultural festivals throughout the year.
A breeding ground for migratory whales, the area is also home to a diverse and abundant array of wildlife.

Slice of Heaven on Earth My husband and I spent the week here for our honeymoon. It was the perfect location! It was secluded and private with lots to do just a short drive away on the days we wanted. The views of the ocean during the day and stars at night were breath taking. Stewart was an amazing host, giving us lots of suggestions to do in the area. He took time to meet and orient us and answered any questions we had promptly. The property was gorgeous and the cottage had everything you might need. Can't not say enough good about this place! We can't wait to go back.
Gorgeous oceanside cottage getaway TumbleSea was unquestionably the finest rental we've experienced thus far. Nestled in a charming location with a captivating view of the water, the cottage provided us with endless enchantment as we relaxed on the deck or in the cottage, gazing at the water and the sky. The cottage itself was impeccably clean and exuded a warm, cozy ambiance. What truly set our stay apart was Stewart's exceptional attentiveness to our comfort and overall experience on this beautiful island. Cape Breton has completely won us over, and we would eagerly choose to stay at TumbleSea again without hesitation – it's an absolute gem!
An absolutely wonderful stay! This was our second time staying at Stewart's properties…It was a spectacular spot then and even better this time around. Stewart is a wonderful host—all of his recommendations for food, site seeing were spot on. The cottage is just as advertised, clean, beautiful views, quiet and relaxing, with all the amenities you need for a worry-free stay. We will be going back and we will and have told all of our friends.
Fabulous views and excellent location This cozy cottage has great views of the ocean and Chimney Corner beach. The Chimney Corner location is also perfect for spending time anywhere along the west coast, especially the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Inverness, and Margaree. The hosts are fabulous and responsive to every need. Thank you Stewart!
Late August at Chimney Corner Did you ever walk into your accommodation and drop your jaw and high-five your mate? This cottage is a total score. It is located halfway between the National Park and world-class golf at Inverness. Two thumbs up! Stewart is very nice, easygoing and very helpful in terms of points of interest. You would be hard-pressed to do better.
We returned from TumbleSea Cottage just yesterday and we miss it already. The cottage was more than we expected. The view of the ocean from the main living space and deck is spectacular and falling asleep to the waves and sea breeze nothing short of amazing…The cottage was well appointed with everything you need for an extended stay. We loved seeing the eagles soaring overhead and listening to the playful red squirrels darting from tree to tree in the morning. We stayed a week but would have stayed forever if we could. Stewart, thank you for sharing this little piece of heaven with us.
