We love a cottage by the sea, and this cabin rental in Nova Scotia is located in a place of spectacular beauty and privacy. Charming and full of character, it’s a welcoming and cozy retreat for two within minutes of the famous Cabot Trail and all the natural beauty of Cape Breton Island.

Perched on a cliff in complete seclusion overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, this cottage rental in Nova Scotia is situated near the renowned Cabot Trail surrounded by over 150 acres of fields, forest and windswept highlands.

The coastal design mimics the maritime architecture of the region with cedar-shingle construction and a whitewashed horizontal-board interior. Designed and built by artists and native Canadians, the house is a labor of love that reflects their appreciation for the area, its culture, history and traditions.

Charming and comfortable, the open-plan living space features beams and vaulting ceilings that lend it a bright and airy feel, with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area surrounded by windows for spectacular views. Finished with both rustic and contemporary furnishings and decor, the cottage is welcoming and homey, with one cozy bedroom for two.

Outside, the large deck is positioned perfectly for spotting lobster boats, eagles, moose, bobcats, and the whales which pass by most of the year, and from where you’ll catch dramatic sunsets and panoramic views. You can also fire up the grill for dining alfresco.

A world of natural beauty is at your doorstep, from the warm sands of Chimney Corner beach, to the world-renowned Margaree river (great for wild salmon and trout fishing), the Cabot Trail and the stunning National Park.

    Around

Located at the eastern end of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island lies between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean. The famous Cabot Trail roadway encircles the island, passing through rugged coastline and forests and along the edges of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and takes you through spectacularly beautiful areas.

Less than 30 minutes north of the cottage, the Park has an extensive network of hiking trails, including the Skyline Trail that overlooks the Gulf, as well as dramatic waterfalls, rivers and highlands.

Both the fabulous beach and bluffs of Whale Cove and the beaches and lighthouses of Margaree Harbor are just a few minutes away, while the beach nearest the cottage is ideal for swimming in warm months.

Head south on the dramatically beautiful Broad Cove Road on your way to the town of Inverness, with it’s great pubs, cafés and local music. Strike out for nearby Margaree, where there are some great craft shops and a famous eatery. With its mix of Celtic, Acadian and First Nations cultures, the island has a rich history and unique traditions with various music and cultural festivals throughout the year.

A breeding ground for migratory whales, the area is also home to a diverse and abundant array of wildlife.
