Crystal Clear Walls in the Heart of a Forest
A gleaming glass gem in a fairytale forest, this tiny house offers distinct greenhouse vibes and a vivid living roof, plus an inviting, reed-lined natural swimming pool right outside its front door. The latest offering from our partners at Getaway Projects, this cabin rental in the Netherlands is full of surprises.
Inside the newly built small home, a 1970s-mod interior décor scheme rules, with a funky, built-in circular couch backed compactly by an ebony-and-gold-flecked marble slab creating the home’s compact kitchen and bar area. The living room feels like an atrium cocktail lounge, where glass walls enclose you on all sides and gleam overhead, above the lush plant life suspended near ceiling level.
A tiny house that is huge when it comes to forest views, this newly constructed greenhouse home was created to take full advantage of its location in an unspoiled, “forgotten” forest. For most of the structure, the only thing separating the home’s interior from the surrounding woods are wide glass windows and ceiling panes. Built in classic greenhouse style, the compact home’s crystal clear common room is fully enclosed by windows and ceiling panes. The glass expanse is interrupted only by the windows’ dark metal framing, itself offset by contrasting interior structural beams in a groovy shade of gold, and a wood-burning stove in the front window.
Two bedrooms are built into the home’s upper level, each fitted with queen-sized beds set under sloping, wood paneled ceilings and walls, with space-saving skylight-like windows and ebony pocket doors. A single, sunken bathroom downstairs features a double shower, swirly marble vanity, and the moody, 1970s-era décor palette continues inside the shower, lined with dark, pebbly tiles that add to the home’s retro, naturalist’s cabin vibe.
Outdoors, the inviting natural pool is slightly elevated above ground in a dark frame that mimics the home’s structure. The pool is lined with narrow decking and a ladder on one side, while pristine vegetation sprouts along the other edge. The entire greenhouse cabin is constructed atop a concrete slab terrace under the trees, and an outdoor dining area with a fireplace is set alongside the pool.
AROUND
Built to take advantage of a forgotten plot of dense woods secluded between a residential area and neighboring villas, this cabin rental in the Netherlands offers the chance to watch the birds and squirrels in the huge trees, and see deer and other small wildlife wander the forest.
Epse is a small village located between the towns of Deventer and Gorssel, offering easygoing, leisurely recreation options such as walking, hiking, and cycling in the surrounding forests and meadows. Popular with vacationers, the region offers all services—grocers, cafes, restaurants, etc.
The town of Deventer sits along the Ijssel River and is known as an ancient, Hanseatic destination, boasting many of Holland’s oldest locations, including the country’s oldest house, oldest library, and oldest park as well as a notable Gothic era church.
