Rural Comporta's Simple Pleasures
This vacation home rental in Portugal was designed as an exercise in simplicity and reworked traditional architectural elements. Made up of a whitewashed cement house, with a detached wooden cabin sitting beside it, it sleeps up to seven guests.
It's located in a great part of the country as well - near the hip town of Comporta and just 3km from one of the best beaches in Portugal.
We love how the houses have strong lines but are simply furnished and almost completely unadorned - creating a simple, relaxed atmosphere.

It's located in a great part of the country as well - near the hip town of Comporta and just 3km from one of the best beaches in Portugal.
We love how the houses have strong lines but are simply furnished and almost completely unadorned - creating a simple, relaxed atmosphere. The space was created, the owners tell us, for communal living, with its open-plan areas, floor-to-ceiling windows that bring outside inside, and the cool little pool in the garden.
The main house has one bedroom with a double bed and bathroom, another with two single beds, which can be combined, and a living room with a kitchen and dining table. The cabin has a double bedroom and bathroom.
HERDADE DA COMPORTA
The house is located in Brejos da Carregueira de Cima, in rural Herdade da Comporta, surrounded in lavender and rosemary-scented pine woods and rice fields. It's close to the villages of Carvalhal and Comporta. Pego and Carvalhal beach are five minutes away by car, and Comporta beach is ten minutes away.
The region of Comporta is located about one hour south of Lisbon, in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, where the Sado river meets the ocean. It's a popular destination for locals that has recently started attracting an international clientele because if its unspoiled charm and golden sandy beaches.
There are loads of great restaurants and bars nearby. Outdoor activities range from walking through the rice fields to horse riding, biking from beach to beach, and dolphin watching on the Sado estuary. For families with children, there are some additional options - Badoca Park (40 mins by car), a safari park, and the Science Museum at Lousal Mines (50 mins).
Bikes can be rented locally. There is a children’s playground 20 meters away.

Comporta, Portugal. Nearest airport: Lisbon (1hr 15 mins). A car is recommended as there is no easy public transportation.
