The 1970s are stayin’ alive at the Casacosta houses, two spirited villas hugging a jagged cliff with unobstructed views out to sea in Tenerife. These modernist, late mid-century homes are located in an enviable off-the-beaten-path corner of the island, and they present as a series of mod, geometric spaces, showcasing disco-era dens and ceilings crafted from local stone, offset by sleek concrete updates. Connected by spacious terraces on multiple levels and a cool circular pool, both homes have been artfully updated yet keep their defining vintage vibe.
Two disco-era villas for rent in Tenerife discovered on vacation by an architect and art collector, these open-plan, oceanfront homes hug a dramatic cliff face in a relatively remote part of the island. The villas date back to the 1970s and were given a 21st-century update that’s landed them in the pages of architecture and design magazines. Both houses are brimming with the couple’s creative curation. They’ve added art and contemporary design elements, yet both of the homes’ great original bones have been left intact and allowed to shine.
The larger villa, Casacosta, is spacious and cubist, with interlocking spaces built across split levels. Its open-plan concept is anchored by a large entry hall and surrounded by pool-hugging terraces. The house sits sturdily and dramatically atop a rugged rocky outcrop that overhangs the sea. There are seven double bedrooms, most with en-suite baths and daybeds for overflow sleeping. A small, single bedroom is accessed from the roof terrace that also makes for a great outdoor lounge area with dramatic, big wave views. Inside and down a level is a sunken private bar. The room is created of dark, textural rock and it offers a pure 1970s vintage vibe for cocktail hour or just cozying up, tiki style. There’s a large dining area for entertaining a crowd, and a remodeled kitchen.
Casacosta’s smaller next-door neighbor is set a level down from the larger, main house. Casacosta Nextdoor is closer to the sea and equally inspired architecturally, actual wilder feeling and more intimate, set as it is over the waves. The home has a unique, rockstone ceiling like the larger villa’s bar, that gives it an added vintage vibe. Like its neighbor, it’s decorated with 1970s-era flair, and has three double bedrooms and bathrooms and an open plan concrete kitchen and dining area, plus terraces with dramatic sea vistas.
These two villas for rent in Tenerife can be rented separately or together. Read an interview with the owner in our Stories section here.
