The Circus Apartments are a collection of newly-built, state-of-the-art urban pads in the heart of Berlin, with different styles and accommodation options. A home away from home with a touch of the unexpected, and details that make every room unique. Our favorite? The wallpaper! Sourced from different artists and shops like ARTE and TapetenAgentur, designer Sandra Ernst was inspired by the idea of creating a living space that is unique, alive, and offers more than accommodation.
“Guests who stay with us come from all over the world, belong to different age groups and naturally have different taste when it comes to interior design,” she tells us. “This is why I wanted to make sure all the apartments offered a different atmosphere, so I focus my designs around all the different people and their unique tastes.”
Wallpapers are one of the best ways to create a special look. “What I love about them is how they complete the look of a room and add richness to it,” she says. “I especially love playing with different patterns and matching them with other pieces.” This is why some rooms offer warm and relaxing tones, while other are more “alive”, with pops of color to brighten up the space.
When it comes to the choosing process, she doesn’t really have a system. Sometimes the idea of a look is in place and she matches the wallpaper to it, and sometimes a wallpaper really chooses her, stirring her plan for the design around it.
“I particularly like subtle patterns, like this one from Tres Tintas [pictured above]. The first time you look at it you see the palm leaves, but when you look closer you notice the hands and the little figures walking around.”
