Eny Lee Parker at Casa O'te Miti

Eny Lee Parker at Casa O'te Miti

The acclaimed artist-designer reports back from a serene oceanside escape in Sayulita, Mexico, with friend and collaborator Spencer Malinski.

New York-based spatial designer Eny Lee Parker is just back from Sayulita, where she spent a few days unwinding at Casa O'te Miti with textile designer Spencer Malinski. Located on a lush 16-acre plot surrounded in jungle, the colorful compound above the waves on Mexico's Riviera Nayarit invites guests to unwind in spaces that are open to the elements, including the two large bedrooms the designers occupied, with soaring palapa roofs and easy access to the waterside infinity pool.

It was the perfect location for a furniture and lighting designer whose work, primarily in clay, focuses on slowness, intention and respect for natural resources. Here, Eny reports back on crashing waves, glowing sunsets, the importance of open doors—and flan.

The entrance to Casa O’te Miti is stunningly serene—a perfect welcome.

We spent hours in the kitchen, a beautifully designed space with a massive island, cast-iron pans hanging from the ceiling, and a layout that centers on cooking. The kitchen window became my favorite spot, filling the space with light and ocean views.

I really do believe that a true vacation is waking up to open doors and the sound of the ocean. Few things compare to taking a bath with a book in hand, and the sounds of crashing waves.

The house’s color palette and textures blended perfectly with the coastal landscape and the glow of the sunsets. Sunsets here felt like a daily gift, each one uniquely beautiful.

The pool offered an uninterrupted view of the ocean—a serene retreat at any time of day.

And of course, ending the day with my favorite dessert: flan.

We even carved out time for some creative craft sessions.

One of the unique features was a massive rock with an outdoor shower tucked behind it—a perfect blend of nature and design.

I loved how the house’s architecture incorporated natural elements, like the palm tree that stood at its center.

Sayulita exudes a chill, vibrant, and joyful vibe—an unforgettable town.
