The latter have kitchenettes and their own outdoor areas - the bungalow sleeps up to four guests, while the three two-story apartments sleep up to six guests. An ancient olive press area has been transformed into a library and hall for seminars, concerts, and workshops. With no television, the house provides a reprieve from the outside world, but still offers an internet connection and technology for image projection and sound. EXPERIENCESThe newly designed Hamam is modeled after traditional Roman baths and is a relaxing respite offering a variety of spa and massage treatments and all-natural regional aromatherapy products. You can find homegrown products and a selection of interesting items from different regions of Portugal at the on-site store. Relax by the outdoor pool, participate in one of several annual harvests, or hike a vast network of nearby trails. There are also workshops offered on topics ranging from Wild Food to Bird Watching.Bistro is open from 5:30PM-10:00PM and closed on Tuesdays. Complimentary cake and tea served at 5:30PM.Hamam is open from 10:00AM-7:00PM. €12 per person per use or free of charge when booking any additional spa treatments.  Companhia das Culturas is a sustainable and organic small hotel located in the south-eastern tip of the Algarve, besides the Castro Marim Nature Reserve. Situated in a historic town and vibrant agricultural center of the Algarve, Community Culture Retreat is a 100-acre organic farm that produces figs, olives, apricots, oranges, pine, cork, and carob with an emphasis on green garden production. The focus on community, organic sustainable food production, and a simple sense of design is what makes this special retreat a unique vacation option.Formerly the ruins of an agricultural settlement, the farm’s urban core was restored by architect Pedro Ressano Garcia to reflect the Community Culture concept. Designed around two courtyards from previous construction, the site integrates agricultural scenery and pathways, updated with a focus on hospitality and gastronomy. Located within the wild coastal region of the Algarve’s Ria Formosa National Park, this newly opened boutique hotel has a long family history combined with a contemporary style and purpose. A personal and intimate dedication to tradition, Portuguese culture, and the heritage of the coastal Algarve region, the property has been in the same family for decades.
Winner of the 2017 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence in Green Practices as well as an Architizer A+ Award in 2017, the house was originally built in the 1940s by a colorful and beloved local fisherman and has been transformed and redesigned by his grandson as an homage to the generations who grew up on the land before him. Working closely with his sister - an architect with local design firm Par - the process has reimagined and put a contemporary spin on the farm of their youth.

The main living space is placed at the center, with a fireside lounge, a fully equipped kitchen and dining space and warm wood accents that break up the coolness of the concrete. The stairs repeat throughout the interiors connecting the spaces with borderless slats. There are three bedrooms that can sleep up to five guests and a minimalist, neutral selection of furnishings that quietly complement the spaces. The outdoor terraces correspond to the rooflines of the various levels and there are pedestrian paths that link them together. Each room has its own patio space. The outdoor terraces adapt to the terrain, with direct links to the gardens, and a plunge pool at the center with fountains that cascade down, naturally unifying the house and its environment.AROUNDJust 50 minutes inland from Porto, the rural area around the town of Cerva is dotted with charming villages among the green landscapes and rivers. It's an hour from Portugal's third-largest city of Braga, well known for its legendary traditions and festivals including the elaborate Semana Santa. Its elegant historical center is closed to vehicles, offering a great opportunity to wander its maze of narrow lanes and explore the Baroque architecture and plazas lined with great cafes and shops. The UNESCO city of Guimarães is under an hour's drive from the property and is similarly beautiful, with a picturesque medieval center and the thousand-year-old castle and the massive 15th-century palace perched opposite the town. Once the capital of Portugal, it was named the European Capital of Culture in 2012. Just over an hour north is the stunning Peneda-Geres National Park and World Heritage Biosphere. A vast expanse of wilderness, its Portugal’s only national park with multiple entrance points leading up to the Spanish border.  Unfolding down a rocky slope in undulating geometric forms, this holiday home for rent in Portugal makes a bold modern statement in an otherwise natural context. Designed by Portuguese architect Alvaro Leite Siza (son of the Pritzker Prize-winning architect of the same name), the home is an intoxicating installation of graphic concrete forms firmly anchored to the mountain, with staggered, Escher-like levels of exterior and interior stairs that connect the spaces, artfully revealing the house as they ascend and descend.Incorporating the home's steep rugged terrain, Siza embraced the challenging characteristics of the site, crafting a cascading effect of space, light, and interconnectedness. Facing south in an unlikely spot among the steep, rugged terrain in Cerva, Siza placed the home at the center of the lot in a linear position to maintain a strong presence and preserve the continuity and pre-existing natural terrain.The fragmentation of spaces was necessary to transform it into a composition of modest, interconnected spaces that make sense of the whole. Its continuum filters through the forest into living spaces that naturally rise and fall into a home where the earth acts as a catalyst, cooling it on three sides from the sun, and playing a starring role in its design.

Named "Most Tasteful Renovation" in Monocle's Travel Top 50 Awards for 2017 and featured in Wallpaper, Archilovers, Architizer and Archdaily among others, the property was discovered by a Lisbon based couple and restored in partnership with Portuguese architect Luís Pereira Miguel. An impulsive passion project, the property was designed as an homage to how people once lived and retains all of its original features.
Carefully restoring the ancient structures to retain their authenticity, the ancient stone, timbered ceilings, and whitewashed limestone appear much as they were when originally built, with subtle modern updates and amenities. Furnished with traditional handcrafted decor and a minimal aesthetic, the effect is simple, serene, and charming.
