<p>A stunning haven for up to eight, with three double bedrooms plus a sofa bed, this thoroughly updated former fish farm is nestled among the waters of spring-fed ponds. A striking modern retreat, the property now stands as a contemporary lake cabin getaway, with interiors crafted of locally sourced oak, masterful ironwork, and formed concrete. Bring your boat or board and get out on the water, or dare to jump in for a swim off the pontoon. Outdoorsy types will love canoeing on the River Lesse, cycling the Points-Noeuds network of trails, visiting the Eau d’Heure Lakes, or golfing at Rougemeont.</p>
<p>For urbanites, nearby Namur is the capital of the Wallonia region, and it's where the Meuse and Sambre rivers join. The city’s medieval fortress offers seven kilometers of underground passages, and its gardens and enclosures have great views. Dinant offers a city getaway against dramatic cliffs and a fortified Citadel with sweeping views.</p>
<p>The gite is located in the Molignée Valley area of the Ardenne region, a land with a rich gastronomical culture and dozens of medieval castles and abbeys. Visit the Warnant snail farm, a place of heliciculture, which produces delicious escargots to bathe in parsley butter. There’s a fish farm in Annevoie that produces thousands of trout annually in pisiculture ponds, both great washed down with a local wine from the region under the A.O.C. Côte de Sambre et Meuse.</p>

Located in a residential cul-de-sac along the stunning Baltic peninsula, this holiday home in Germany sits in a quiet meadow with unobstructed views of the Darsswald forest.Berlin-based architects Möhring designed and constructed the home in 2017 with a unique mix of bracing modernism and unexpectedly earthy materials. Comprised of two basic geometric forms, the main A-frame structure of the house is clad entirely in thatch and intersected by an oblong Corten steel base. On the ground floor, the bright open living spaces are sleek, white and modern with soaring ceilings and a pared down aesthetic. <p>A five-bedroom villa that’s at once a meticulous renovation and new construction built according to timeless local techniques, this spacious complex combines a three-bedroom villa, a two-bedroom trullo, and a two-bedroom lamia. Each ensuite bedroom opens to the complex’s courtyard that features a central saltwater swimming pool, outdoor shower, and two pergolas, in addition to the outdoor kitchen/barbecue entertainment pergola.</p>
<p>Common areas are in the main building, with the kitchen built adjacent to a dining pergola, a fireplace in the indoor living/dining room, and oversized glass doors flooding the serene space with natural light. Throughout the property, interiors feature a bright palette accented by a singular color pop—seaside blue, sage green, or terracotta red. Natural stone is the property's starring material, with light woods as an accent.</p>

<p>Located in the heart of the Valle d’Itria’s famed magical white village of Ostuni, the generous property makes a great base for exploring the region with family or friends. The crystalline waters of the Adriatic Sea and its rock-studded, coved beaches are only about 15 minutes’ drive from the villa, and the town of San Michele is also nearby. The nature reserve of Torre Guaceto offers another place to soak up the Italian sunshine, and the nearby port towns of Polignano a Mare and Monopoli are worth visiting. The Costa Merlata, a rugged coastal zone of dramatic cliffs and hidden coves near enchanting Ceglie Messapica's historic center is worth a visit, and the beach of Torre Sana Sabina is a regional favorite. The area is famed for its dry-stacked, conical trulli homes, formerly agricultural storage units that today stand mostly as fairtytale private getaways dotting the hilly rural landscape. <h2 id="asiciliancountryhouseforawinelovingcrowd">A Sicilian Country House for a Wine-Loving Crowd</h2>
<p>This stately Sicilian wine estate sits among the vineyards lining Mt. Etna some 35 kilometers from Taormina. Built across multiple levels, the spacious heritage property features a vaulted, barrel-filled cellar below ground, a 13m x 3m infinity pool spilling into the vineyard, local stone floors underfoot, and sturdy old timbers overhead.</p>
<p>Completely updated, the villa’s large living and dining area is anchored by an oversized hearth and furnished casually and comfortably. It's linked to the home's modern kitchen that offers direct outdoor access to a panoramic terrace. Several antique-furnished bedrooms are located upstairs, with modern ensuite baths, and one particularly beautiful bedroom is entered through a ground-floor courtyard, its exposed stone walls revealing a staircase curving upstairs to a mezzanine. This room's rustic ensuite bath seems carved from the lava rock. The principal bedroom features a private garden entry, a sitting area downstairs and a stony sleeping quarter upstairs, with a bathtub/shower combo tucked into exposed rocks and accented by painted terracotta tiles.</p>

<p>The house also features an intact 17th-century Sicilian <em>palmento</em>, an in-ground wine press, plus a pristine modern wine tasting room to greet aficionados. Experiences available include wine tasting, Sicilian meal preparation, a vineyard picnic or a historical train tour around Mt. Etna through lava fields, pistachio and hazelnut orchards, and row upon row of terraced vineyards.</p>

<p>Located on the northern edge of Sicily’s Parco dell’Etna, the country home is set at the foot of one of the world’s most famous and fascinating volcanos. Occasionally snow capped, sometimes red with lava, Mt. Etna is eastern Sicily’s undeniable landmark, and its National Park, founded in the 1980s, features ways to safely visit the active volcano and its craters. The Central Crater, North-East Crater and South-East Crater can be visited with expert guides, allowing for nearly entering the volcano’s mouth. The park also features impressive caves that lead within the volcano via tunnels created by cooled lava. On the park’s easternmost side, the Valle del Bove is a deep valley that runs for nearly 10 kilometers. </p>
<p>Mt. Etna’s landscapes range from barren to densely wooded, and its lower altitudes are home to olive and chestnut, pistachio and hazelnut orchards in addition to fruit groves. Still lower, vineyards stretch both inland and towards the coastline, and wine tourism is wonderful in the area, with tasting rooms and winery tour options numerous. There are several towns within the National Park, too, including Milo and Linguaglossa, and Nicolosi, home of Mt. Etna’s cable car towards its summit. Taormina’s center is located 35 kilometers from the home, and its Corso Umberto shopping street is a favorite. Taormina’s Isola Bella rises from crystalline turquoise waters, and the city is home to an ancient Greek theater ruin and amphitheater overlooking the sea and its string of beaches and coves.</p>

<p>An ancient country house with a renovated 17th-century palmento and vaulted cellar, this stony property rises elegantly from old-growth vineyards on the slopes of Mt. Etna, overlooking lava fields, pistachio and hazelnut orchards, and rows of vines. An ideal escape for a grape-loving crowd of 14, it features seven bedrooms, an on-site wine-tasting lab, and a long infinity pool right up against the vines.</p>

<h2 id="aformerhorsestableturnedoutdoorrecreationwellnessgetaway">A Former Horse Stable Turned Outdoor Recreation &amp; Wellness Getaway</h2>
<p>With its swimming pond, in-home yoga and meditation space, hiking and jogging paths, easy access to the Berlin-Usedom cycling route, and nearby opportunities for tennis, horseback riding, boating and fishing, this bold architectural transformation has turned a vast former stable into a refuge from urban life.</p>
<p>Vaulted ceilings crossed by agro-industrial steel beams reveal the stable’s origins, but the brick building has been thoroughly gutted and transformed by architect Ferdinand Hohenzollern into a vast recreational retreat with ample space for eight. </p>
<p>Smooth lime plaster redefines the interior, spread across the floors and around the built-ins and minimalist furnishings. The many doors and windows original to the stable have been retained, infusing the space with light, and the yoga/meditation room features floor-to-ceiling windows. </p>
<p>The generous living room has a fireplace. There’s an open-plan kitchen with a bar. Two large wooden decks (one south-facing, the other westerly) are equipped with outdoor sofas and a dining table for 13. There are four double bedrooms and three bathrooms (one with a tub, the others with showers). </p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>The retreat is located in the center of the Uckermark region only two kilometers from the village of Seehausen. It's surrounded by fields and lakes as well as several national and natural parks, including the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve to the south, the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park to the west, the Lower Oder Valley National Park to the east, and the Müritz National Park north of the home. The property’s private swimming pond is one lake in the chain of waters between the Upper and Lower Uckersee.</p>
<p>Beech forests surround the green expanses around the property, and the area is an outdoor recreation paradise, with hiking and jogging, cycling tours and well-defined cycle routes nearby, tennis facilities, and horseback riding centers throughout the gently rolling countryside. In this land of many lakes, watersport offerings include sailing, kiting, canoeing and kayaking, in addition to motor or row boat trips on the Oberruckersee and Unterruckersee, with boat rentals available in the nearby towns fo Prenzlau and Warnitz. SUPs are available at the Waldsee, and fishing is recommended in the national park areas nearby or in Prenzlau. The immediate village of Seehausen offers a handful of restaurants and cafes, farm-to-table shops and boutiques.</p>

Entering through a Corten steel gate at the side, a flight of granite stairs takes you down to the central courtyard which serves as the heart of the property where the outdoor kitchen and dining and lounge spaces are sheltered and the infinity pool cascades down one wall. From the courtyard, three large Corten shutters slide away to reveal floor-to-ceiling glass entrances into the main house.The ground floor is a bright open space that was created by burrowing into the hillside and includes a sitting room with a fireplace and a sleek minimalist kitchen with a vernacular barrel-vaulted ceiling made from handcrafted terracotta tiles as well as three of the four ensuite bedrooms. <p>Immersed within a vast nature reserve along the Galician coast, this vacation home rental in Spain is located in a secluded and idyllic location surrounded by forests and vineyards where the wild, sparsely inhabited land meets the Atlantic.</p>
<p>Discovered by chance by London-based architect Jamie Fobert and his partner who stumbled upon the property while on holiday, the 19th-century house was in an advanced state of ruin but the couple was struck by its beauty and potential and the peaceful location. Turns out it was a 12-years-long journey….</p>
<p>Completed in 2017, the granite walls anchored the house and served as the perfect starting point for reimagining what a simple country house could be. The roof, which was long gone, was replaced with locally produced tiles and additional granite and locally sourced chestnut wood were used to complete the material construction.</p>

Ten minutes drive from Porreres village, and 20 minutes to the beach, the home is a discreet and hidden treasure, with no vis à vis and an open campo view. The antique structure was entirely rebuilt in 2021 from antique and traditional stones, tiles, doors and windows. Uniquely designed and locally inspired, the redesign took cues from Balearic tradition and modern living, with curvaceous white walls, warmly polished floors, and a natural airiness throughout.</p>

<h2 id="analentejofarmhouseredesignedforslowliving">An Alentejo Farmhouse Redesigned for Slow Living</h2>
<p>Step inside this home’s handcrafted wooden entrance door and into its vivid contemporary interior, and a rural calm pervades within its original taipa walls. A traditional Alentejo farmhouse that’s been modernized for 21st-century slow living, it has at its heart an open kitchen with a sleek island and indoor/outdoor dining rooms, which make the perfect starting point for low-key gathering. A family room stretches out alongside it, a casual spot punctuated by a brick fireplace atop concrete floors and mostly unadorned (and occasionally exposed) original plaster walls. The home’s three bedrooms are bright, with big windows and glazed doors, and simple built-in vanities in their modern ensuite baths.</p>
<p>The farmhouse’s outdoor areas have been dressed up from busy farm spots to areas for lazy unwinding. There’s bench seating under a shade tree and a poolscape with countryside views. A shade structure helps beat the inland heat, and a sweet, flowering courtyard garden adds to the allure.</p>

<p>A 10-minute drive from the town of Cruz de João Mendes within the Serra de Grândola region of coastal Alentejo, the property has no neighbors, offering complete privacy. South of the property, the village of Santiago do Cacem dates from Roman times, and there are ruins nearby at Miróbriga, with a hippodrome, agricultural buildings, houses with mural paintings, and a stunning intact forum and public bath. Red-tiled roofs rise from the Santiago do Cacem's hilltop location, which saw the Visigoths and Moors occupy the region after the fall of the Romans. The town’s main attraction is its magnificent, crenellated fortress, a 10-towered castle that dominates the hilltop and dates from Moorish times, though is mostly medieval architecture.</p>
<p>The town of Sines is nearby as well, famed as the birthplace of Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama. It's a fishing village with a 15th-century fortified castle and a handful of Atlantic beaches surrounding it. The town’s fishing port is still a working site, known for its daily catch of <em>dourada</em> (sea bass). The nearby harbor of Porto Covo is an influencer’s dream, a pretty seaside town known for its whitewashed single-story homes. Porto Covo's Grande Beach is a popular sunning spot, and the Praia do Buizinhos is a beautiful cove hemmed in by rugged cliffs. Get there for unforgettably pretty sunsets.</p>
<p>Inland, the Serra de Grândola that encompasses the property is home to one of Portugal’s greatest cork oak forests. There’s a trans-Alentejo hiking path known as the Rota da Serra de Grândola, circling through the massive forest and over hills and rushing streams. For urban action, head to hip Comporta and cool Melides, both coastal playgrounds for global nomads, haute fashionistas and the remote working jetset who have transformed the fishing villages into boutique, gallery, and café-clustered streets that are fun for browsing.</p>

<p>An authentic Algarve country retreat, this two-story, whitewashed, blue-accented beauty with its classic red-tiled roof stands tall in the rural Algarve, a short drive from the cork capital of Sao Bras de Alportel. Atmospheric and serene, the home’s 2023 architectural update draws on the strength of the original structure, where clean-lined updates in formed concrete, a new floorplan, and a makeover of the original terracotta floor tiles and whitewashed walls renew the property as an easygoing haven for casual gathering with friends or family.</p>
<p>Each of the three bedrooms has an ensuite bath with a rain shower. Two are on the ground floor, and one room features a loft bed accessed by a small staircase. A new modernized kitchen opens into a high-ceilinged, exposed white timbered living and dining area, and there’s a fireplace to cozy up to in the living area with its built-in sofa seating. Outdoor spaces are pastoral and relaxing, with a cobbled outdoor dining terrace, hammocks, and loungers in the shade of trees, sunbeds and pebbled terraces for soaking up some rural vitamin D, and a pool planned for 2025.</p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>The house is situated on the outskirts of the village of Loulé. A 20-30 minute drive lands you at the nearest beaches, and the home makes a great base for exploring both the east and west Algarve coastlines. The traditional village of Querença is a picturesque, whitewashed community with a handful of local restaurants, and the market town of Loulé (8km) features bright stalls of handicrafts, local farm products, and traditional foods, many available to sample on site. Loulé is home to a castle that dominates the town and offers great views of the rural Algarve countryside. </p>
<p>The small inland city of São Brás de Alportel is about nine or 10 kilometers from the home. Its low white houses merge with its more ornate facades, buildings dating from the town’s legacy as the summer residence of bishops beginning in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the area’s vast cork-oak plantations created a new economy, and São Brás became the world’s largest cork-producing municipality. Tours of the Novacortiça factory detail the history and uses of cork, harvested from the cork oak tree, a species unique for its regenerative bark. Almond, fig, carob and pomegranate trees also grow in the hills, and the vast rural area is known locally as the “barrocal,” a place of small villages tucked into the hills and trees. A half hour’s drive lands you on the busier Algarve coast, where the fishing port of Olhao, the Ria Formosa Natural Park, and the islands of Armona and Culatra await exploration. Golfers can enjoy a course only 7 kilometers away, and other clubs a bit further, within a 20 kilometer radius.</p>

This recently renovated 210sqm, standalone country house is in a wonderful location in the hills of Camaiore, in the Province of Lucca and only a few minutes' drive from the splendid beaches of Versilia. It has a spectacular view of the valley up to the sea. The owners Astrid and Peter Gufler personally welcome and introduce the guests on Saturday, and they are available to help with any issues that may arise during the week.On the ground floor, you will find the living room with an open fireplace, 46in flat TV with SAT, DVD with wireless DSL connection, iPod dock, a professionally equipped kitchen with a fireplace. On the first floor there is a bedroom with a double bed and bathroom with a lone-standing bathtub and shower. On the lower floor, there are two bedrooms with double beds and two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a whirlpool bathtub and shower. One of the bedrooms have access to the garden and pool area. There is a covered pergola for eating outside, and a wood and gas grill system 5m from the house. The garden is enclosed.
