Creating this remarkable farmhouse started with a multicultural family’s dream of owning and operating an organic, regenerative family farm. Sounds simple enough, but their reinterpretation of this classic Piedmont farmstead turned out to be anything but ordinary. A next-level agricultural enclave designed by architect Luca Gandini, this boundary-breaking rural outpost dedicated to sustainability is a farmhouse for the future.What began as an investment in authentic values and the desire to practice alternative agriculture in harmony with nature grew into a remarkable architectural dialogue between the built environment and the landscape, and ultimately led to the creation of a dreamscape for modern naturalists. Visually, the home has been celebrated (Archilovers Best Project 2020, finalist for the Plan Award 2020) and featured in design publications showcasing its series of strong, distinct volumes that cut across the topography of the land it occupies. Stark structures in brick and concrete cantilever across the green hillside in a nod to brutalism and modernism. The vivid geometric cubes and rectangles step across the slopes, coming together to create three residential stories containing the family home and guest apartment, as well as rooms dedicated to agricultural experimentation and entrepreneurialism. The volumes merge with each other and the landscape to create openings for outdoor terraces and the private pool deck, with unique corridors and stairwells both indoors and out.Befitting the farmhouse’s futuristic design, interiors are sleek and spare, with exposed concrete and brick walls, wood flooring and timbered cathedral ceilings, ample glass openings in windows, doors, and skylights, and fun features including built-in furnishings, secret passageways, and lounging nets. A mural-lined exterior corridor showcases playful portraits of farm animals by artist Cristina Stoppa that appear as large-scale paintings framed by picture windows.Gardens and greens sprout from the rooftops, and a solar field covering one roof generates enough power for the farm and the surrounding community. The small village of Ullastret in the Girona province is a quiet town with an identity that has lasted centuries, and this holiday home in Catalonia was developed as a coherent, deferent, and unique response to its surroundings. As with much of the medieval structures in town, the site was encircled by ancient stone walls marking the boundaries of the original estate, but were subsequently dismantled and moved slightly during restoration, with the walls now functioning as the home's exterior perimeter.Designed by Catalan based firm, Harquitectes, the home is composed of interrelated outward facing spaces that paradoxically create a private inwardly focused habitat that faces the gardens and pool and remains sheltered from the street. Illuminated and warmed by large bi-folding windows that run the length of the structure, the linear spaces create a sequence of corridors dividing the living room, kitchen and dining areas on one end, and the private en suite sleeping spaces at the farthest end. Composed entirely of polished and raw concrete, the interiors nevertheless have a sense of lightness and have been maximized for functionality and social interaction. A sparse selection of neutral, modern furnishings and an absence of superfluous decor allow the architecture the spotlight.  The interior gardens are grassy and peaceful with a central pool and areas for private relaxation that tie it all together. LA COSTA BRAVA  The small medieval village of Ullastret along the Costa Brava is located less than an hour from Girona and is encompassed by many well-preserved stone structures and fortifications similar to the walls of the house. Outside of the sheltered narrow streets is the town's Gothic Llotja Square and the remarkable ancient Iberian settlements - one of the most important archaeological sites of the Iberian period in Catalonia. The Costa Brava is bordered to the north by the beautiful and protected Garrotxa region and to the south by the Gavarres national park, surrounded by some of Catalonia's most breathtaking natural and coastal beauty. Don’t miss El Canadell, a hidden gem of a beach in the picturesque fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell.A small medieval city and university town with fabulous Catalonian restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes, historic Girona sits along the River Onyar where the walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) features the ancient Roman rampart fragments of the Vella fortress woven through the tiny streets and alleyways. The area is also home to the authentic and picturesque medieval towns of  Besalu, Figueres (home of surrealist painter Salvador Dali), Santa Pau, Castellfollit de la Roca, Olot and Alta, all in less than an hour's drive. Established in connection with a design and reforestation renaissance in the Puerto Escondido region, this holiday home in Oaxaca is set within an exclusive and pristine location in the vibrant art and architecture scene.Designed by Venezuelan architect Alberto Calleja, the style combines Brutalism and traditional Mexican craftsmanship, resulting in a uniquely modern residence.The single-family house is contained in three separate volumes, distributed among social areas and two pieces that interact independently, with a master bedroom for two people and four secondary rooms for eight people.The giant, open-air palapa includes the living  areas, a dining room, and fully equipped kitchen that leads out to the deck and pool, all linked together in a common space with a façade of wooden doors that retract completely, opening out to the sea.Wooden pathways connect the spaces while further immersing the house into its surroundings.PUERTO ESCONDIDOLocated along a remote stretch of Pacific coast, the port town of Puerto Escondido lies at the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range just over one hundred miles from the inland capital of Oaxaca. Designed by Venezuelan architect Alberto Calleja, the style combines Brutalism and traditional Mexican craftsmanship, resulting in a uniquely modern residence.
The single-family house is contained in three separate volumes, distributed among social areas and two pieces that interact independently, with a master bedroom for two people and four secondary rooms for eight people.
The giant, open-air palapa includes the living&nbsp; areas, a dining room, and fully equipped kitchen that leads out to the deck and pool, all linked together in a common space with a façade of wooden doors that retract completely, opening out to the sea.
Wooden pathways connect the spaces while further immersing the house into its surroundings.

Located along a remote stretch of Pacific coast, the port town of Puerto Escondido lies at the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range just over one hundred miles from the inland capital of Oaxaca. Arranged around a picturesque bay dotted with gigantic rock formations, the area is divided between Bacocho Beach on the north end, the Playa Principal resort area in the middle, and the famous surfing beach of Zicatela on the south end.&nbsp;

"The process of monitoring the reforestation in the area was established as a natural and primary objective of the project, contributing to the regenerative process in context with the land," says Calleja.

The main living area is bright and open with a cozy fireplace and includes a fully equipped modern kitchen and dining area and the master bedroom with a luxurious marble bath. Each of the three independent bungalows houses an en-suite double bedroom and all are oriented east to west with sea views and access to the east-facing patio overlooking the lawn and orchards. On the western side, a larger garden patio offers additional space to relax and enjoy the views and a vegetable garden where you can help yourself to some seasonal treats. The positioning gives a sense of tranquillity, space, and silence, where you can enjoy amazing ocean view sunsets and the unique beauty of the Alentejo. COMPORTAJust an hour's drive south of Lisbon, the Comporta area of the Alentejo is ideally positioned to enjoy both the countryside and the Atlantic coastal areas. <h2 id="aseasonallyadaptableionianseaviewvilla">A Seasonally Adaptable Ionian Seaview Villa</h2>
Tucked naturally into a hillside outside Noto, this architectural take on sustainable Sicilian living was designed by Gaëtan Le Penhuel Architectes and built by regional craftspeople. The monumental residence combines two structures, a main house and an extension, with 360-degree views of the Ionian Sea, Monti Iblei and sun-soaked groves of olives, citrus and almonds.
What sets the design apart, besides its minimalist, brutalist beauty, is its mission to provide a safe, cool haven in a seismically active region threatened by wildfires and excessively high seasonal temperatures. Constructed with an innovative double shell of concrete mixed with pozzolana, or insulating volcanic ash, from Mount Etna, the home takes its cues from brutalist residences set in desert locales of Mexico or the stately Greek temples built closer to home over 2,000 years ago.
With each of its rooms offering open access to the outdoors via sliding wood, Maschrabiyya-styled doors, the interiors are minimal and elemental, with tables and furnishings crafted of cool-to-the-touch quarried travertine from Lazio and a central fireplace mass for use in the cooler months.
Unseen are the residence’s thermal wells, transporting the coolness of inner earth to the rooms, complemented by the design’s intentional cross-ventilation. The deep terrace, marked by Grecian temple-styled pillars, is shaded by a reed roof, and there’s an outdoor kitchen and a second patio with a shower, plus an outdoor area at the adjacent studio/guest suite. 
A bit removed from the house, a pool slides into the horizon line, offering distant sea views beyond the green-and-silver vegetation and dappled shade from centuries-old olive trees.

Located on the outskirts of Noto, Sicily’s Baroque beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this home in the hills offers countryside views, with the Ionian Sea sparking on the horizon. It makes a great base for exploring Sicily’s famed Baroque towns—Noto, Catani, Ragusa, Scicli, Modica, Caltagirone, Palazzolo Acreide and Militello, plus the port city of Siracusa, home to astounding archeological sites, museums and the ancient temple of the goddess Athena.
Nearby Noto is a jewel of a city, built of local limestone that reflects the island’s sun and sunsets, its famed cathedral, ancient marketplace and many buzzing cafes, restaurants and tavernas. The raw concrete, urban villa evokes modern Brutalism even as it takes its design cues from the ancient Maya. Though unique in form, the home’s construction relied almost entirely on local Yucatec masons and carpenters. The exceptionally long, narrow, 80-by-8-meter lot still holds ruins of the property’s original stone structure, now incorporated into the innovative design.  The villa features a deep front garden that serves as a buffer from the street, and the home was built on a long central axis offset by open courtyards. Sculptural, poured concrete rooms feature stark, built-in nooks, benches, openings and passageways. A cenote-inspired swimming pool punctuates the linear residence,  and louvered wooden doors and windows pivot and slide open to reveal outdoor pockets hung with hammocks and lined by rock gardens. Interiors are somber and simply furnished—another nod to the ancients who weren’t big on ornamentation. A plunge pool anchors the contemporary outdoor living space, a covered patio of angular concrete volumes topped by contrasting breeze blocks, insulated by leafy landscaping.AROUNDA relatively undeveloped beach destination on the Pacific coast of Guerrero, Troncones and La Majahua village are favorite romps for Mexican families and surfers headed a bit north out of Zihuatanejo.
