<h2 id="designerduoshomesweethome">Designer Duo's Home Sweet Home</h2>
Creatives by trade, Argentinian Fernando Aciar (Fefo Studio, OSTUDIO) and Parisian Anna Polonsky (Polonsky &amp; Friends) have put their heads and hands together to create a private, Bed-Stuy brownstone intimately focused on family, fun and function, adding a generous dose of inspired repurposing and creative upcycling as part of their process. The couple's two-level brownstone features an independent rental unit downstairs and a small garden out back, and it’s brimming with personal flourishes—from a recut stone bar and hand-painted kitchen tiles, to a serpentine shelving unit and a golden built-in sofa.
The brownstone's main floor houses the living room, kitchen and dining areas in a neutral, black and white layered space, accented by the artworks of Brazilians Stephanie Lucchese and Tom Jardim, and Uruguayan painter and ceramicist Eva Claessens. Aciar's ceramics and a collection of colorful accents pop against the neutral backdrop—a big picture vision of Polonsky's. And the couple repurposed the home’s vintage, cinnamon-toned limestone from local Brooklyn quarries into a new bar and prep island, then added selected limestone cuts to create new kitchen counters, a dining table and bedroom side tables. The townhome's original doors have been refurbished and original floors polished and sealed. Old air conditioning units have been artfully camouflaged, and turn-of-the-century moldings add allure in bedrooms and common areas. The brownstone’s upstairs is home to two textural, limewashed bedrooms with terracotta-floored bathrooms, and there’s a basement apartment on the lower level available for rent, as well.
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
New York's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, affectionately known as Bed-Stuy, is actually one of Brooklyn’s largest neighborhoods—sort of a town within a borough that’s known for its rows of brownstones, tree-lined streets and dozens of shops, restaurants, bars, and art studios. An oasis of Victorian architecture, Bed-Stuy is quintessential, turn-of-the-20th-century New York, an area first developed by Dutch and German immigrant merchants that later became known as “Brooklyn’s Harlem,” memorialized by Spike Lee, Duke Ellington and Jay Z. The neighborhood is home to nearly 10,000 homes built before 1900 in a variety of architectural styles from Queen Anne to Italianate. Artists, actors, musicians and creatives call the area home as do an increasing number of young, new-to-New-York urban professionals, creating a buzzing cultural and culinary scene. Craft breweries join age old jazz bars, pizza-by-the-slice outlets stand opposite mixology level cocktail bars, and rowhouse staircases still see plenty of community gathering. Architecture buffs appreciate the neighborhood's wealth of wrought iron and turrets, box windows and masonry, much of it created by architect Montrose Morris.

The Argentinian-French husband-and-wife duo behind this wholly original 1899 brownstone in Brooklyn’s iconic Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood typically serve as the designing minds behind other people’s spaces, styling and strategies. Together, the ceramicist-chef-entrepreneur and the food and restaurant designer have poured their creative energies into the transformation of a classic, two-story Brooklyn walk-up, creating a deeply personal home, awash in custom color, unique forms, and dazzling individual detail.

When you think of a French farmhouse, you think stone walls, tiled roof, climbing roses, and acacia and walnut trees. Ideally it's surrounded in vineyards. With this property, you get all that plus a private swimming pool. This 18th-century farmhouse with stables and hayloft has been converted into a home that's suitable for five guests. We love the attention to traditional style, including the beautiful blue shutters, terracotta tiled floors, patterned tiles on the kitchen walls, wooden beamed ceilings, and airy French windows. Plus all the details - from modern art to vintage finds. The kitchen even has an open range with a log-burning stone oven which is 240 years old.The house opens into a large kitchen with adjoining dining room, and has a large living area with open fire. On the first floor are the three bright bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with bathtub. There are large patios, and the swimming pool is just a few steps from the patio and barbecue area. ADDITIONAL FEATURESThe kitchen has an electric cooker, grill, microwave, dishwasher, extractor fan and fridge/freezer. The main living area features the classic beam and stone structural characteristics with graceful arches and a lighter and more expansive layout and large glass doors that open out to the gardens. The fully equipped kitchen has been completely modernized but with a rustic country feel and can serve up to ten in the dining area. With four bedrooms and three baths, the house is spacious and can sleep up to eight.The restoration of the gardens will continue for years to come with traditional Mediterranean orchards, olive groves and a vegetable garden.  Located just outside of the small town of Alaior towards the interior of Menorca, this carefully restored 19th-century manor home was discovered in 2012 by the owners in almost complete disrepair. Designated Grade 1 historic status, the home occupies the site of an ancient stone quarry and was built within its walls. Situated on over two and a half acres of rural terraced landscape (all of which will be opened in subsequent years when restoration progresses), the owners embarked on a painstaking three-year restoration of both the structure and gardens and the house made its official debut in 2015.The home's historic status means that all original exterior and interior details needed to be protected and preserved and the redesign has successfully integrated the ancient details and materials and reinterpreted it as a sophisticated and contemporary residence.

The second Spanish renovation project for Yann Le Coadic of French firm Lecoadic Scotto, this stunning property dates from the 16th century and faces the Alhambra. The designer’s personal home, it propels guests back to the Renaissance, revealing a dazzling variety of influences from the region’s Moorish, Roman, Renaissance Catholic and even Franco Modernist past.
Built riad-style across two stories, all rooms open to a central courtyard, and there’s a roof-level terrace. Three bedrooms, each with an ensuite bath, make the home ideal for six guests, though a convertible sofa bed in the moody smoking room allows for a seventh. Le Coadic has added his own respectful creations of course, though his approach was one of restoration and minimal fixes for modern life versus a deep renovation. He created a generous dining table inspired by monasteries that is the home’s heart space, a low-slung sofa based on Middle Eastern built-in couches, and an innovative aluminum headboard in the primary bedroom that draw in natural light. Furnishings are a relatively spare curation of antique finds.

Granada is synonymous with its UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Alhambra, a vast palace, fortress, grounds and gardens that was once the largest political and aristocratic center of Muslim culture in the West. The stunning hilltop site rises above the Darro River and was first designed as a fortress before becoming the royal residence and court of Granada in the mid-13th century with the establishment of the Nasrid Kingdom. Throughout the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries, the fortress was transformed into a citadel defined by its soaring walls and defensive towers that housed the military, the royal guard and the medina. Seized in 1492 by the Catholic Monarchs, the Alhambra later became a Christian court, military zone, church and Franciscan monastery.
A mountain town in the Sierra Nevadas of Spain’s Andalusia region, Granada features a wealth of Moorish architecture in its steeply sloped, winding streets.  Biblioteca Almirall was once the private library of Valentì Almirall, an impassioned figure of the Renaixença. Today, it is the beloved home and life project of a fascinating Colombian-Norwegian family. Martha and Øyvin fell in love with this early Beaux Arts library in 1999 and dedicated the following 18 years of their lives to its careful restoration. Along with their children, the family moved from room to room within the building as the restoration progressed, growing up with their home. And, as everything came together in 2011, the family set off on a 14-month trip around the world and returned filled with sights and sounds, their taste for adventure and appetite for life stronger than ever.  Set on a hilltop overlooking the city, this strikingly preserved 19th-century library has been converted into a private home with a stylish mixture of design themes. Within the heart of the Collserola nature park, the house offers amazing views to both sides of the mountain and panoramic views of the city from the east side.Designed and built by one of Catalonia's most prominent authors, lawyers and adventurers, the building is full of histories and anecdotes linked to his time here. Pairing the classically elegant Beaux Arts architecture with a cool Nordic minimalism, the building was adapted for family life by the owners with the help of architect Carol Iborra. The imposing facade gives way to stately interiors, with the main reading room's soaring ceilings anchored by a lovely ornate fireplace making it an ideal central space for social gatherings. A studio space is available for guests and has been completely modernized in cool Scandinavian white and wood. The one double ensuite bedroom has its own entrance with space for two guests, opening out to expansive gardens with a pool. The exterior spaces are nestled into the forested hillside in a private and relaxed setting. Preserving and sharing the cultural and historic heritage of Catalonia, the couple opens their doors to guests who will appreciate the experience of being in touch with history and are invited to feel at home.
