<h2 id="fourhomesaprivatelakeandmountainviews">Four Homes, A Private Lake and Mountain Views</h2>
<p>A distinctive mountain estate, this waterfront property is comprised of four residences that are rented together as one large, multi-unit home.</p>
<p>At the heart of the estate, <em>Black Bear Manor</em> sleeps up to 12 guests in its stately wood and stone lodge. All bedrooms are king or queen sized, one with two queens, and all offer access to patios with lake or garden views. Two king suites feature Jacuzzis in their baths, and one queen room features a deep soaking tub under a big round window. The timber-topped living room’s fireplace is a stunning work in stone. The fully-stocked gourmet kitchen has expansive lake views, and it offers access to the lakeside porch with a grill and dining table for eight. The indoor dining area seats 20, and a lakeview kitchen pub offers high-top dining for 10.</p>
<p><em>White Tail Lodge</em> is warm and wood-lined, featuring four bedrooms (a king, a full, a twin and a bunk room), all sharing a spacious, ebony-tiled bathroom with a soaking tub and a lounging deck right on the water with chaises and chairs for 10. The full kitchen is cozy and warm, with lake views and access to a covered porch with alfresco dining for 10 and a large grill.</p>
<p><em>Turtle Cove</em> is a classic lake house cabin, its exterior clad in shingles and surrounded by a picket fence. Inside, it offers a cozy, lakeview living area with a queen sleeper sofa and a full-sized, classically paneled bedroom and bath with a standing shower and views of the water.</p>
<p><em>Fox Cottage</em> is a small one-bedroom home under soaring trees with views of the lake below. With its interior of wood, stone and exposed ceiling beams, it offers a woodsy lodge atmosphere, with a full-sized bedroom, a pair of living rooms, each with sleep spaces (daybed, pullout sofa) and wraparound picture windows. The bath has a shower, and the fully-equipped, homey kitchen offers views of the shimmering lake outside.</p>
<h3 id="additionalfeatures">Additional features</h3>
<p>With its lake’s pair of docks, the property is as much about outdoor living as cozying up indoors. There’s a seven-person hot tub, a pair of propane grills for outdoor entertaining, hammocks, a water trampoline, two canoes, two kayaks, and a dozen yoga mats. A waterfall spills into the lake from one shore, and the estate has its own hiking trails and a menu of add-on experiences by reservation.</p>

<p>Located an hour and a half from New York City, the estate was originally established as the Slotkin Family Farm in 1943, and the property still reveals remnants of its agricultural beginnings, including silos and the interior woodworking. In addition to its on-site hiking, water activities and curated experiences, the property makes a great base for exploring the beauty of the greater Upstate region.</p>
<p>The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park features the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge, spanning 1.28 miles. The nearby John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary is a favorite spot for area hikers who explore its open ridges, thick forests, wetlands and jutting rock formations. Named for nature writer John Burroughs, the sanctuary also features his cabin that’s open to visitors. Dairy farms and farmers’ markets dot the region, among them Red Maple Vineyard, a dairy operation turned farm-to-table venue and vineyard offering small batch wines, beer, ciders and mead, as well as seasonal organic produce and wild-foraged items such as ramps and chanterelle mushrooms. The Hudson House &amp; Distillery offers an Italian Revival architectural villa for exploring, and the Culinary Institute of America along the river in Hyde Park was recently designated one of America’s prettiest college campuses by Condé Nast Traveler.</p>
<p>Highland itself is a hamlet loved by those seeking a low-key, natural setting. Avid hikers love the Minnewaska State Park, Franny Reese State Park, Illinois Mountain and the dramatic Mohonk Preserve. In recent years, the small town has welcomed holistic health and wellness practitioners, yogis, and makers who have joined its loyal generational residents. Cyclists and joggers can now travel the seven-mile Hudson Valley Rail Trail and even cross the river to join the Dutchess Rail Trail. The better known towns of Poughkeepsie and New Paltz are neighboring communities, Poughkeepsie located east of Highland and New Paltz to the west, both offering lively centers lined with bistros, galleries, cafes and coffee shops, in addition to craft breweries. Highland offers its own, slightly quieter strip of cafes and coffee houses as well as a handful of local galleries alongside longer standing potters’ studios, handicraft shops, and classic small town diners and boutiques.</p>

<p>A five-bedroom villa that’s at once a meticulous renovation and new construction built according to timeless local techniques, this spacious complex combines a three-bedroom villa, a two-bedroom trullo, and a two-bedroom lamia. Each ensuite bedroom opens to the complex’s courtyard that features a central saltwater swimming pool, outdoor shower, and two pergolas, in addition to the outdoor kitchen/barbecue entertainment pergola.</p>
<p>Common areas are in the main building, with the kitchen built adjacent to a dining pergola, a fireplace in the indoor living/dining room, and oversized glass doors flooding the serene space with natural light. Working together with a team of local architects and craftsmen, the apartments were pared down to the essentials and given a subtle lift, creating more contemporary spaces.</p>
<p>Down the dramatic spiral stairs are the sauna, hamman, and indoor relaxation areas with the stunning saltwater infinity pool just outside. <p>With its swimming pond, in-home yoga and meditation space, hiking and jogging paths, easy access to the Berlin-Usedom cycling route, and nearby opportunities for tennis, horseback riding, boating and fishing, this bold architectural transformation has turned a vast former stable into a refuge from urban life.</p>
<p>Vaulted ceilings crossed by agro-industrial steel beams reveal the stable’s origins, but the brick building has been thoroughly gutted and transformed by architect Ferdinand Hohenzollern into a vast recreational retreat with ample space for eight. </p>
<p>Smooth lime plaster redefines the interior, spread across the floors and around the built-ins and minimalist furnishings. The many doors and windows original to the stable have been retained, infusing the space with light, and the yoga/meditation room features floor-to-ceiling windows. </p>
<p>The generous living room has a fireplace. There’s an open-plan kitchen with a bar. Two large wooden decks (one south-facing, the other westerly) are equipped with outdoor sofas and a dining table for 13. There are four double bedrooms and three bathrooms (one with a tub, the others with showers). </p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>The retreat is located in the center of the Uckermark region only two kilometers from the village of Seehausen. It's surrounded by fields and lakes as well as several national and natural parks, including the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve to the south, the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park to the west, the Lower Oder Valley National Park to the east, and the Müritz National Park north of the home. The property’s private swimming pond is one lake in the chain of waters between the Upper and Lower Uckersee.</p>
<p>Beech forests surround the green expanses around the property, and the area is an outdoor recreation paradise, with hiking and jogging, cycling tours and well-defined cycle routes nearby, tennis facilities, and horseback riding centers throughout the gently rolling countryside. In this land of many lakes, watersport offerings include sailing, kiting, canoeing and kayaking, in addition to motor or row boat trips on the Oberruckersee and Unterruckersee, with boat rentals available in the nearby towns fo Prenzlau and Warnitz. SUPs are available at the Waldsee, and fishing is recommended in the national park areas nearby or in Prenzlau. The immediate village of Seehausen offers a handful of restaurants and cafes, farm-to-table shops and boutiques.</p>

<h3 id="sweetseclusioninavastconvertedstable">Sweet Seclusion in a Vast Converted Stable</h3>
<p>Tucked into green rolling hills and beech forests an hour’s drive from buzzing Berlin, this huge former horse stable has been transformed by its architect and TV personality owners into a recreational retreat for eight. Guests are invited to spread out under soaring vaulted ceilings, exhale in a bright yoga and meditation room lined with floor-to-ceiling French windows, and grab an invigorating swim in its private pond.</p>

Renovated old Finca. The task was to retain old finca charms but transfer it to a light contemporary design experience. Only 7 minutes from the shores the finca is set hilltop overlooking a valley.  

<h2 id="ancientfarmhousemademodernonmallorca">Ancient Farmhouse Made Modern on Mallorca</h2>
<p>With some of its vast, 500 square meters dating from medieval times, this stony finca presents a contemporary reinterpretation of a rural farmhouse designed to preserve its ancient charms and meet the demands of modern life. Enter through its antique entrance into a welcoming <em>entrada</em>, one of several seating spaces built around the property for luxurious relaxation.</p>
<p>Renovated common areas include a living room with a view, a separate TV room and a fully equipped contemporary kitchen. Five spacious bedroom suites offer four king- and two queen-sized beds, with one suite featuring an open fireplace and another a private loggia. Each of the five unique rooms offers a living area with a sleeper sofa, armchairs, and a workstation, and one bath features an indoor/outdoor space outfitted with an external shower. The living room has a notable modern fireplace, an angular contemporary addition that adds sculptural flair, surrounded by a classic Mallorcan-styled built-in sofa.</p>
<p>A sweep through the fully renovated home reveals a décor palette that tends towards subdued organic hues, and clean-lined, hotel quality furnishings that include a mix of Mallorcan farm furniture, antique finds and sleek modern pieces to complement the original architecture. Multiple terraces exist around the property, and an alfresco dining terrace for 14 guests is shaded. The property’s garden and pool area offer established Mediterranean trees and shrubs, a large grassy area, and two pool cabanas, a shower and toilet, plus umbrella-shaded sun beds and an outdoor kitchen with an Argentinian asado grill space. There’s a dedicated mature cactus garden, and a small vegetable garden and lemon garden, too.</p>
<p>A detached, two-story, 35sqm casita for two is available as an additional lodging and is located some 20 meters from the original finca.</p>
<h3 id="additionalfeatures">Additional features</h3>
<p>The home benefits from a treatment system that uses UV light to purify water. The finca is equipped with fiber optics with access points throughout the home and outdoor spaces, and there’s a Sonos music system in the kitchen/living area and a 65in smart TV in a dedicated TV room. The home’s heat pumps are solar operated as is its AC system, and there’s a sauna and relaxation room in-home as well.</p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>The property’s hilltop location offers views of the Puig de Santeuri and the Castel of the same name, across lands still cultivated with vegetables. S’Horta means “vegetable garden,” and the village sits some five kilometers inland from the coast, where two pretty coves, the Cala Sa Nau and Cala Mitjana, await. The coastal towns of Portocolom and Cala D’Or are minutes from the farmhouse by car and both offer a wealth of dining, shopping and recreational opportunities. Vibrant Cala d’Or is a yachting port and with a medieval castle watching over it. The town is also easily accessible to the Mondragó Natural Park, famed for its aquatic birdlife including ospreys. Portocolom, a traditional fishing village is set around one of the island’s largest sheltered bays. Boathouses, a lighthouse, and dozens of colorful fishing boats line its quay, and guided boating trips are available from this harbor area as well. </p>
<p>Portocolom, named for Christopher Columbus, is also home to an ancient burial ground or prehistoric <em>naveta</em>, and its blue flag beaches, such as Cala Marcal, offer sandy shallow waters that are family-friendly. The town’s pastel houses are postcard worthy. For great dining and the region’s delicious local food and produce options, head to the lively market town of Santanyi, some 18 kilometers to the south, with markets each Wednesday and Saturday mornings. The home is also 47 kilometers from the Aqualnd El Arenal Water Park, and the Coves del Dra are only 21 kilometers from the property.</p>

<p>A sweet stone retreat for four, perfect for slowing down and living <em>la dolce vita</em>, this lakeview villa perched on a verdant Umbrian hillside seems expressly made for rejuvenating rest and deep relaxation.</p>
<p>The low-key home’s interior ups the ante when it comes to cozying up and winding down, embraced by traditional terracotta floors, exposed wood beams and comfortable global furnishings. The ground floor is home to the living and dining area, with a ceramic, wood-burning stove, open-plan kitchen, and two bedrooms (one a double, one with two twins). The slate-clad bathroom has a shower and laundry setup, and a staircase leads to a mezzanine attic space, with a sofa bed for lounging and overflow sleeping.</p>
<p>The garden is dotted with olive trees, and a shaded pergola scented by climbing roses is fitted with an outdoor kitchen. You can lace up your hiking boots and trek right out the door on one of several trails winding through the woods, with big lake and mountain vistas, or to small stone villages clinging to the lake's shores. Alternatively, stay at home and opt for a splash in the 10m x 5m pool or a game of pick up soccer on the green.

<p>A haven for hikers, this part of Umbria offers numerous scenic trails, with one leaving the property for the nearest village, reachable in about an hour, another to a local restaurant or a riding stable after about 40 minutes’ hiking.</p>
<p>Mount Amiata rises above the picturesque local village, and Lago Trasimeno shimmers in the near distance, spreading into bays created by the sloping mountains, with Isola Maggiore visible offshore. White water lilies, reed beds, and green wetlands shelter wild ducks, cormorants, kingfisher and kite birds. Isola Maggiore is the second largest island on Lake Trasimeno, and the outpost is inhabited by about three dozen people in a small port village dating from the Middle Ages, with the 12th-century Church of San Salvatore and a handful of restaurants and artisan studios.</p>
<p>Other lake villages worth a visit include Città della Pieve, home to Italy’s narrowest alley, Panicale, with a 15th-century church housing two of Perugino’s frescoes, and Passignano, site of a 14th-century tower and medieval houses. The lake’s largest island, Polvese, is not inhabited and is a public parkland with a monastery and restored 14th-century castle.</p>

<p>The 95-square-meter casa’s simple beauty has been loved for generations by the same family, who still occupy a home on its cherry-orchard-dotted fields. The muted, minimalist country house was restored to capture the region’s quiet essence, its monochromatic structure mimicking Puglia’s <em>muretti a secco</em> earth. Décor is spare, in the soft soil tones of the surrounding garden across its king-sized bedroom, open-air double bed niche off the kitchen, and warm living room with its sculptural modern fireplace. There are two bathrooms, an ample kitchen, and a generous outdoor veranda that gives way to the swimming pool and al fresco entertaining area, with its kitchen and private terrace.</p>
<h3 id="around">Around</h3>
<p>Located in the fertile Apulian countryside, this multi-generational family guesthouse is easily accessible to the villages of Castellana Grotte, Conversano, and Putignano, all offering historic sites and charmed streets, plus a wealth of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. The owners' family restaurant, Osteria Caroseno, is a seven-minute drive away, offering lunch and dinner by reservation. The Apulian coast makes for a great day trip, too, particularly the port city of Monopoli and the harbor of Polignano a Mare (30 minutes). Enjoy long walks in the countryside and visit Castello Marchione, a FAI heritage site.</p>
<p>Castellana Grotte’s claim to fame is its karst cave system, deep grottoes with a three-kilometer walkway reaching 70 meters underground, full of abysses, stalagmites and stalactites, dripstones and fossils (nine minutes). Nighttime tours of the caves are especially enchanting. Conversano village (15 minute drive) is best known for its monumental castle, a limestone fortress dating from Norman times that was transformed into a noble residence by the Acquaviva di Aragona family. Don't miss the gelato at Caffe del Incontro. And Putignano is primed for wanderers and slow tourists who love to lose themselves in its labyrinthine streets lined with Baroque splendor.</p>

<p>A muted, restful quality softens this sculpturally restored casa by architects and interior designers Opus Atelier, who created the sensually hushed, monochromatic casa in homage to Puglia’s quieter, contemplative side. Calibrated to meld with the region’s subtle natural palette of sandstone earth and silver-tinged shrubbery, it sits within a soothing garden design by Studio Paz.</p>

Constructed of limestone, concrete and natural stone, the structure is dominated on one side with three arched glass doors leading out to the terrace. The open plan main room includes the sitting area with a fireplace, a dining area and kitchen that features fun, multi-colored lighting. There are two double bedrooms to the rear and a colorful bespoke shower room with a unique washing machine drum bathroom sink. Many of the one-of-a-kind decor and furnishings are the result of up-cycling roadside finds to make original pieces that blend modern and rustic styles.  The large shaded area with built-in wood-fired BBQ to the front of the property is perfect for dining al fresco and enjoying the stunning mountainscapes and there are hammocks for lazy siestas. AT THE BORDER OF CATALONIA &amp; ARAGONThe house is just a few miles on a partially paved road to the pretty riverside village of Tivenys where you will find all local amenities and a very laid back atmosphere. Twenty minutes further is the medieval town of Tortosa at the mouth of the Ebro River. A gorgeous mix of Baroque, Renaissance and modernist architecture, there's also a 15th-century Arab castle perched on a hillside overlooking the town. The relatively undiscovered area along the border of Catalonia, Aragon and Valencia is a spectacularly beautiful and biodiverse region that allows for vast exploration without the crowds. Bordering the Els Ports Nature Park, the region is characterized by dramatic limestone massifs and was once home to prehistoric settlements, where you'll encounter fascinating remains of paved pathways, chalk ovens, ice wells and charcoal stores. The area is also home to several ancient hilltop villages dating back to the 12th century within a short drive that provide a glimpse into a bygone era of rural life. They come alive each summer with parties featuring traditional music, dance and dress and colorful markets. Once known primarily for olive oil, the region is now a big wine producer and the village of Lledò an hour west will welcome you with a tasting at Bodegas Crial and the dramatic &#34;Cathedral of Wine&#34; in Pinell de Brai. The coast is twenty miles south with the nearest beach being L'Ampolla. LOCATIONTivenys, Catalonia, Spain. Cornerstones and support walls remain from the shelter’s original use as a garden outpost, but they've been updated with unvarnished wood-beamed ceilings, unadorned matte plaster walls, and smooth concrete floors. A contemporary wood stove, stainless steel kitchen wall appliances, and a plunge pool on the paved patio are the home’s only ornamentation, dressing up the pure, monastic design. AROUNDLocated in the humble village of Lamarosa in central Portugal, the home offers easygoing rural living, with nearby services such as an ATM, small market, post office, health center and pharmacy. The region’s main draws include the village of Torres Novas with its medieval fortress castle, Roman ruins, art museum, and mosaic-tiled town square. Other attractions are Constância, with its picturesque, whitewashed residences and alley-like cobbled streets at the confluence of the Tejo and Zêzere Rivers, and the notable Almourol Castle, a majestic turreted and crenellated fortress castle on an island in the Tagus River. Also worth a visit is the small city of Tomar, the former seat of the Order of the Knights of Templar, with its UNESCO-classified castle and convent.
